The Forbidden Love: Til Death Bring Us Together *Chpt. 1*
|
“I hate you!”
The words echo through the room. She stands there, my mother, speechless. The anger in her eyes slowly disintegrating to sorrow; to hurtfulness. I keep my glare on her, never flinching, never revealing how much I truly regret those words. My eyes, stone cold, peering into hers; into her soul. Looking back now, I wish I had. All I had to do was apologize and it would have been over. It would have never amounted to anything more than that. But, you can’t change the past.
My name is Eve. I’m 16 years old, and this is my story.
I rushed out of the room in hurry, not wanting to turn back and see her hurt expression again. I couldn’t bear it. Everything I’ve gone through, everything she put me through, and she wants me to feel sorry for her? In her dreams! My dad couldn’t even stand her, that’s why he left. He left me with her. He left me to take the beating from which he escaped. I hated him for it. All these thoughts race through my mind. I didn’t know where I was going; I was just going. Near midnight, all by myself, I walk the barren streets. A cold wind rushes past me, blowing my long, tangled midnight black died hair wildly behind me. I zip my coat up to my chin and stuff my hands in my pockets.
“I just have to let the anger die down,” I say to myself.
“Once the rage is gone, I’ll go back. I just have to calm down.”
Closing my eyes, I try to rekindle old memories. Memories of when things were ok. When I wasn’t angry, when our family was together, and I can picture us all happy and smiling. It’s not working. Not one single pleasant memory comes to mind. I feel a hot tear slip down my cheek as I continue walking; walking away from any home I’ve ever known. My combat boots thud heavily along the pavement. I walk several blocks of empty streets, the occasional car drifting by. I’m not paying any attention to where I’m going, and suddenly find myself in a dark alley.
More tears start to form in my eyes as I realize I am lost. I’ve never been out in the city by myself before. I don’t know my way around.
“Don’t cry,” I hear a voice say behind me.
I quickly whip around, but my vision is so blurred from the tears, I can’t make out anything more than a foot away. The voice was male, with a certain tone to it, almost evil.
“Who’s there?” I ask to the darkness. I wait for a few seconds. No reply comes. Fear starts to overcome me, and I whisper into the darkness again.
“Who’s there?” The words are barely audible. I could hear the whimper in my voice as they left my lips. A sudden urge overcomes me, and I don’t want to know who’s there. I turn back around quickly and start walking, quickening my pace with every step. More tears start to form in my eyes. Terror overcomes my entire body as I near the end of the alley. A cold, vacant brick wall comes into view. I wipe the tears away to see where the top of it is. I can tell it’s too tall to climb over. I’m stuck. And the only way out is to turn back around to the source of the voice. I can’t seem to move my body. All I can do is stand there and stare at the wall, different scenarios play in my head of what might happen if I turn back. I feel something move behind me. I tense up, knowing it’s him. Slowly, I turn around and come face to face with a tall dark figure. Slowly, he takes a step closer to me, I take a step back.
“Don’t be afraid,” he hisses.
As he takes another step forward, the moonlight shines upon him. Long strands of slick, black, shoulder length hair fall in front of his face, his skin pale white and nonhuman looking. His eyes glisten a deep red as a wicked smile starts to form on his face. A long, black trench coat hangs on his shoulders down to his shoes where shiny black boots envelope his feet. He looks several years older than me. His arms hang loosely by his side as if he hasn’t a care in the world. I can see sharp canine teeth at the edges of his smile slowly peeking out. I want to run. I want to scream for help, but I can’t. It’s as if he’s frozen me where I stand, disabling me from moving; from leaving his hypnotic gaze. I can’t seem to tear my eyes away. I just stand there, a cold rush running through my body. I feel a bit faint and dizzy. Everything starts blurring and spinning around me. I feel myself collapse, expecting to hit the hard, cold ground. Instead, something stops me. Everything goes black. I fall unconscious into the hands of the Mystery Man.Comments
