Chapter 11

“A llama?” she offered up jokingly.

“Hmm I know a bird!” I decided dismissing her llama joke.

We laughed and I decided to go get one after our hiking trip this weekend. Akira had to go home all to soon. The rest of the week was pretty boring. I didn't see much of Mark or Katie and Akira and I hung out everyday after school. The weekend finally arrived and we all gathered at my place. Oh yea forgot to mention one more thing, we invited Mark and he is coming too!

The weekend was here, everyone was gathered at my house and all our things were packed. Mark threw it all in the car for us and every time he looked at Katie she giggled. Akira and I would laugh when Katie turns red and Mark smirked noticing that she was crushing on him. I walked out with Mark carrying the last bag.

“Now I see why I was invited.” he chuckled.

“Why is that?” I questioned genuinely confused.

“To be your girls pack mules.”

“Is that so bad.” I smiled at him as he threw in the last of the bags in the truck.

“Not at all,” he smiled back draping his arm brotherly over me shoulders.

“You know Katie is crushing on you.” I looked up at him.

“Yup”

“Well do you like her?” I was really curious to find out if they would get together!

“I just met her,” he reasoned, “but I do think she's cute.” he added in.

“Just don't hurt her.” I giggled.

“No worries I'm not heartless. Besides I wouldn't want to get on your bad side.”

“No you wouldn't” we laughed as we entered the house and Katie's eyes went straight to Mark and followed his arm around my shoulder.

He didn't notice so I mouthed to her that it's not like that. She trusted me and nodded okay but still looked longingly like she wished he would do that to her. I left from Mark's side and rushed to Katie's. I told her how he is like my big brother and she brightened up happily then asked if I liked him as something more. I told her just as a brother and to go out there and get what she wants. She laughed and got up walking over to him.

Akira and I went over the list giving them time to talk and get to know each other more. I filled her in on everything with Mark and Katie because Akira could be a bit clueless sometimes. She watched a little more closely and then agreed that Katie had a crush. Katie runs over to us all of a sudden and whispers to Akira and I that he told her she was cute then ran back to him.

Akira started laughing and a laugh is contagious so I started too. We got caught in a laughing vortex and couldn't breath after a while. But neither Katie nor Mark noticed our hyperventilation. Akira noted the things we needed and I checked them off and soon enough we were ready to go. “MOM!” I called to her.

“Yea dear?” she called back.

“We are ready.”

“Okay load yourselves up and I'll be out in a minute.”

“You heard my mom time to go.” I saluted my mother's door and turned about face leading them out military style.

I sat Akira up front in the passenger, myself behind her, Mark in the middle and Katie next to him. Katie grinned over to me and I winked back. Mark looked down on me embarrassed and leaned over toward my side of the car.

“Are you trying to set me up?” he inquired.

“No”

“Yes you are!” he argued.

“Am not, I'm not trying I'm succeeding.” I whispered smugly knowing I won the argument.

“Thanks” he whispered back only half sarcastic, confirming my victory.

My mom finally came out and hoped in starting the car up and pulling out her map. “Alright who wants to be my map person?” my mother asked teasingly.

I sighed and then offered to do it for the sake of everyone else. Akira offered up to do it too but I told her it was fine and I had it handled. She leaned back in her chair and would probably fall asleep on the way. It was a little over an hour of a drive out there.
