Chapter 4
I told Fay that its for her and walked back into her bedroom giggling. I drew the curtains to give them some privacy, but peeked between them to watch and listen. David just reached the top of the balcony when I looked out and Fay was standing there with her mouth open.
“David get away from me” she shouting angry
“Fay, I'm sorry, please don't be scared.
“David your a jerk, I not here to help you win bets okay!”
“I'm not here on any bets, I'm here because all year I hid my feelings for you.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I've liked you all year and now its summer, I don't want to not see you all summer.”
“Since when?”
“I was too afraid before but now I think its time to make a stand for my feelings about you!” he told her. I smiled wide watching through the curtains unnoticed as David inched toward Fay. She didn't move away. He lifted her onto the edge of the balcony and held her tight to him as he kissed her lightly. I was so happy for Fay I knew he liked her back! He lifted her head and ran his nose along her jaw line and then kissed the base of her neck before lifting her down. “Fay?”
“Hmm?”
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
“Yea” she said softly. Thats where I stopped watching and went to the bed smiling really big. They walked in and I told her that her mother was here just so she knew. David nodded and told Fay that he'll call her later. She said goodbye and he climbed back down the balcony.
I spent the night that night as planned and woke up in Fays bathtub the next morning. I was shocked and stiff. “SALLY?” she called to me. I called back and she stood there lecturing me its not comfortable to sleep in the bathtub. I laughed sarcastically and told her I must of slept walked. I tend to do a lot in my sleep and we are pretty used to me being somewhere else in the morning, but this was a new one! The next day we decided to go ice skating, and guess who Fay invited. David and Fay were getting their skates on. We were at an outside rink so it was really cold. I went to get my jacket when this dog ran up to me. It stared at me and whined, so I picked it up. There was something about this dog I liked, and I rarely liked a dog. Just wasn't much of a fan. It curled up in my arms and I snuggled it back feeling its warm fur and remembering my jacket I went and picked it up.
This guy came over and gestured to the dog. I asked if it was his and he said yes. So I parted with it and for some reason I was sad that I did. He asked if I had ever been to the rink and I told him no. So he ran over got his skates and put them on, I was kind of confused until he told me he had to see me skate. I wondered why and he answered as if he knew what I was thinking, or simply finishing his own explanation. He told me there weren't often newcomers but when there were they often are picked on and fall a lot. He said its really quite funny and no one gets hurt but for finding his dog he's going to teach me. He introduced himself as Jake. I looked at him and saw he was really nice looking. Dark olive colored perfects skin and handsome face with black hair and brown eyes. He stuck out his hand and I took it.
I felt wobbly on the ice but his support helped. Fay had been here before and was doing great with David and she winked as she flew by me seeing Jake holding my hand. I stumbled a few times but Jake was strong enough to hold me up and I didn't fall. He helped me glide freely and then let me go. I was able to stand but a little afraid to move, when I did try the ice was slippery and I could get no grip. I started twirling around involuntarily. Jake rushed over and grabbed me by my hand helping me and teaching me how to skate. By the end of the day I was doing pretty good.
When we had to leave I was surprised to find out we had been there five hours! I told Jake goodbye and shook his hand, he pulled me into a hug and told me he had fun. I thanked him and told him I hoped to see him around, and his dog I smiled. We went and dropped David off first and then I was next, I told Fay goodbye and they drove off. My mom was at the door waiting and asked how my day was so I told her all about it. It got to about 7 o'clock when I realized how tired I was so I laid in my bed and fell asleep immediately. I woke up with a start and looked over at the clock seeing it was midnight. I dialed Fay's number and surprisingly she answered.
“Hey Sally!” she said
“My names not Sally.” I responded.
