Ch. 6

The journey cont.

The pair did not speak for the rest of the day until sunset. Flirey ran over to the opening of the cave screaming look, look! Erith walked over slowly asking what all the commotion was about and telling her that they need to head out soon. She sat down on a stone and told Erith to sit with her. Erith sat behind her obeying, but stated that he was wasting time. Flirey asked him what was happening to the sky and wanted to know why it was bleeding? Erith responded dully that it was just sunset and it happened every night. Erith then glanced over at Flirey who was mesmerized by it, and realized she had never seen the sun set before. Erith laid down behind her, watching her looking up into the sky and being outlined with the colors of the setting sun. The leaf she was wearing as a dress began to glow with the golden of the sun, and the colors bounced off reflecting around Flirey like an aurora. Flirey watched until the sun disappeared and the moon took its place seeing the stars twinkle and surround her, as her mind floated to the heavens. She wished she knew how to fly, so that she could be up in the sky. The funny thing that stumped her was the size difference of everything between Erith and herself, yet the sky was the same size to any one big or large, and it was admired most by those who saw it least, other took this site for granted. She wished her family could see these sites someday in their life. She rose to her feet knowing they should be on there way now, and that she held Erith up enough. When she got over to him she knew he was exhausted, she gave him a tap and his eyes opened. For the first time Flirey saw Erith’s eyes smile, and they were smiling down on her. She blushed giggling as she turned away and told Erith that it was time to go. He reluctantly gets up and lifted Flirey onto his shoulder setting out. Flirey asked Erith if he thought that maybe she had wings but was a flightless Fairy. Erith chuckled, dismissing the remark as impossible; after all he saw her hover briefly when she got angry. Remembering this made him grin at how Flirey got so made she lifted off the ground. He decided not to tell her, he knew if he did she would push herself to try and he doesn’t want her getting injured.

The meeting place and cross of the pond

Erith crossed over the land at a relatively quick pace. Flirey watched the stars follow their pace, crossing the sky as they crossed the ground. Erith was getting restless, he felt lost. He had know idea which direction to go anymore. He told Flirey and she did not know either. When Flirey returned to watching the sky a ball of flying fire fell in the southern direction landing not to far away! Flirey shouted out FIRE BALL. “What,” Erith asked

A Fire Ball, follow it that is the way to your house, go that way,” Flirey said pointing down hill and toward the direction the falling star went. Erith said nothing but decided to follow her instructions. After all, the first incident was a mistake when he did not listen to her about the log. When he got to the hill he knew it would be too steep to just walk on down it. He told her he would have to find a way around. Flirey stood on his shoulder and stamped her good foot angrily, shouting no, go down. Erith stated that it’s not like there are stairs there. And Flirey had no idea what stairs were. Erith started to descend down the hill with surprising ease. He looked back when he reached the end and saw a small stair way he had just walked down. Confused he turned away and then did a double take, looking back just in time to see the stair case disappear. Erith asked Flirey which way the fire ball went and Flirey responded with a flick of her finger, in the right direction. Flirey told Erith that they were headed to the pond. Erith asked how she could possible know that, and she said that it is as if she were connected to the water and the fire itself. She said that she had a hunch it was no coincidence that they met, and Erith seems to be connected with earth. Erith pondered this and agreed, stating that the wind and the earth were always lucky elements for him. Then he asked why she thought that there meeting was no coincidence, and she said she did not know but together they were to do great things, and that wind must be the other element of his. Then Flirey said that her family always spoke of an ancient myth that a long time ago two fairies had connections with the four elements of the earth, including: earth, air, water, and fire. Their wings showed their elements and their names combined them, and they could bend and use their elements to their will. Helping them and the other fairies to survive; supposedly they were the ones who created the underground shelter when humans came after them. Erith explained to Flirey how it was a great story and there are a lot of coincidences that seem to match up but the big problem was, he was human. Flirey took this information to heart but still believed that the story had been reborn and intended on proving it. Flirey stared at Erith watching him walk toward the direction she said was the pond. Erith glanced over feeling her watching him, and Flirey looked away shyly letting her curls brush gently against his cheek. Flirey saw the pond first and shouted how she was right and the myth has been reborn she has the connections to fire and water. She turned toward Erith pondering the situation and then heard Flirey yelling Erith you the other half I know it. Erith shook his head as if the words were clinging on and he knocked them all off. Flirey then calmed down and said, “You know the funny thing is that I have a connection to the two elements that can kill a fairy, fire of course can kill anything, but particularly water because fairies with wings can’t swim.” Erith warned her not to trust these so called ‘connections’ and to stay away from the water. Flirey said that that is his problem he does not trust so he can not connect. Flirey walks over to the water and suddenly jumps, as she is in mid air Erith commands on instinct for the nearest leaf to fly with the wind and carry Flirey to safety. The nearest leaf did. Flirey stood there pleased with her plan working flawlessly. Erith yelled at her saying how if that leaf hadn’t coincidentally hit her out of the way she could be dead. She laughed at the word coincidentally with full faith that it was Erith’s will that the leaf caught her. So she jumped again, Erith yelled for a stick to fall from a tree, fly with the wind, and catch Flirey. She smiled with the joy of the ride, considering that she can not fly. Erith stop concentrating on Flirey now that she was safe and pondered if he did have power. The second his mind was off directing the wind, it died letting Flirey fall to the ground. Angrily she yelled at Erith for letting her fall and hurt her injured leg. Erith said he was sorry and she was so right about everything. “Aren’t I all ways?” Flirey flaunted, spinning and letting her dress twirl out just for her finger tips to touch and finish with a curtsy. Erith laughed at her light mood, commenting on how good she looked in the moonlight, her golden skin looked pale and calm. She looked like and angel or ghost floating through the night. Erith wondered if there was a way to travel faster using these connections. Flirey said that they must have an extremely strong connection together and they should just focus on controlling it until they master it. But Flirey did not wish to take her own advice and told Erith to sit for a minute while she looked for a snack. Erith said no, and that he would find food and Flirey would stay out of the water. Flirey promised; to stay OUT of the water that is. She walked over slowly to the pond watching the vibrations to make sure that Erith was gone. Then she commanded the water to freeze and be the ground beneath her. Then advanced stepping onto solid ground, or solid ice, she laughed skating around and playing on the ice, and then wished for a drink. She stood up straight and focused commanding the ice to part and withstand, the ice did not melt but cracked open leaving a gash in the pond. She focused more telling the water to fill the acorn top with water, the ice listened and whined as it began to heat just enough to melt an acorn full, then flowed through the air in a stream, like a current would and landed not spilling a drop in her cup. Erith was arriving behind her and soon enough stood watching astounded. Flirey had forgotten to see vibrations she need to have melted some of the ice. Erith was angry telling Flirey to get out of there before she drowns. This angered Flirey that he had no faith in her power. She yelled back at him with force, “who’s going to make me, certainly not you, I’ve told you once and I’ll tell you again I DON’T NEED YOU TO SURVIVE!!” Erith yelled back that he’ll come and get her if she doesn’t get out of there. She dared him to try. He took a step just edging over onto the ice, Flirey commanded it to melt and flow with currents like an ocean. Now Erith’s foot fell through getting submerged in water and feeling it lap at his feet. Erith grew angry at this and “yelled that she had no right to use her links to the elements when angry.” Then he told the wind to slide her ‘cross the ice, it obeyed. Flirey raised the water to form a wall not allowing her-self to be slid, and yelled “you’re angry and you’re using them too!” This made Erith even angrier. “Flirey, this is for your own good,” shouted Erith. Then he drew his concentration and said silently in his mind, draw up the earth beneath the pond and form a wave to shake her free. Flirey started to feel shaking, and screamed as she was forced to ride a wave to the edge of the pond. Erith dropped concentration and said see, I came and got you with a pleased look. Flirey smiled with envy and anger and had fire glistening in her eyes. “Oh, man,” Erith whispered under his breath with fear. He said in his mind commands gathering the wind in a boulder shape forming a bubble of protection that functioned like the atmosphere. Flirey was into the fight now, not recognizing Erith any longer, she wanted revenge and the elements took over her body and mind. Her feelings now commanded the elements attacking Erith violently. Erith used logic and control commanding his elements to protect and not strike Flirey. Flirey pulled together the storm clouds and directed them over Erith who saw the light start to form. An energy blast of fire shot down on Erith in his bubble. Erith formed an inner bubble of air and an outer bubble of earth. Flirey saw this and grinned, shouting what a fool he was. Erith did not understand what she meant by this, all he knew was that Flirey strengthened her power to the point where it controls her and she cannot control it. The good thing is that if Erith lives he will be just as powerful and with control and if she survives it, she will be powerful and in control. Because Erith made the outer block of the earth Flirey sent an energy blast down on him heating and slightly melting but not breaking the barrier. Then formed a wave of the ice melting it and flowing it over the rock, forcing it to cool and harden, trapping Erith inside. Erith was glad for this because he had air inside and now Flirey can go back to normal, he just hopes she will be okay. After awhile of complete silence Erith commands the Earth to split open. Then Erith finds Flirey lying on the ground, he lifts her up and asks if she is okay she reply’s that she is sorry and fine. Instead of accepting the apology he thanks her, for now they both are powerful and fully understand of how to use their connections.
