Chapter 5

The damage repaired

Flirey continued to bleed from her side more and more, and she ached from the cuts on her face and legs from before and now the broken leg and wrist were painful and hard to move. This was not a life threatening situation as long as she is treated before something comes along to eat or step on her. She decided her best bet was to attempt to use her wings to lift her, which is when she realized one of her wings was clipped and pinned to the ground by a stick. This was a wound that would heal fully and recover in a day or two but it meant she was stuck here without any help. Erith returned to find Flirey resting with her eyes closed. He called her name, and her eyes flashed open frightened and then suddenly calm as she recognized the voice. She asked why he did not head home, and he said that there was damage to repair here. First he pulled the sliver of wood pinning her to the ground. Then he turned her slowly onto a leaf, realizing now that she had been bleeding. Erith kept saying how sorry he was and how it was entirely his fault. Flirey passed all the pain off as nothing to help Erith’s nerves. Erith confirmed that her leg and wrist were broken. He used a stick and some vine to bandage her leg and some bark and vine for her wrist as a makeshift splint. Then took her to a shallow puddle and told her the only way to stop the bleeding is to shock it in ice cold water, and find another outfit. She looked at him waiting for him to leave, and he realized she was just like a regular girl, modest, and walked away to get some food. Flirey looked around and then began to unclothe. She stripped off the leaf made dress and lifted some water from her hands to wipe the smeared blood from her face. She picked up a ball of moss and wet it with the water squeezing it out over her wound, feeling the sting as the ice water flowed like a waterfall over a cliff would. The bleeding slowed but did not come to a stop; she repeated this process watching the brown and red liquid that gushed from her body, now flowing down her broken leg. She saw the blood flow stop and sighed in relief. Then cupped more water over her body watching it flow throughout the curves of her hourglass shape and give a numbing effect. She felt Erith would be back soon, according to the vibrations of the water. Then lifted a vibrantly colored leaf, and formed it to her body in a ravishing dress, and took a vine wrapping it around her waist for a fashionable belt. Plucked some nearby blue and red berries and attached them to her belt as gems and bells. Then the last touch, she took a tiny budding flower and placed it behind her ear in her hair. Erith was also cleaning up, brushing off his long Capri shorts and fitting green t-shirt. He fluffed his hair to rid it of the dirt, and then heading back to Flirey with the disappointment of not finding any safe food.

As he walked back up the hill where Flirey was he saw some more mushrooms but they were not cooked, therefore not safe to eat, but he picked them anyway. Finally returning to Flirey she smiled giving off a false look of relaxation. She looked better than she felt that’s for sure. Erith brought up the tiny mound of mushrooms and said that was all he could find. Flirey answered that it was enough but not safe and they should get under some shelter, leaving the food behind. Erith looked into the sky and also saw the looming clouds start to give way. They ducked under a rock that gave a cave effect and hoped for the best. The rain was acidic and the wind made it powerful, they hoped that they were to escape unharmed. In front of them where they left the food the ground was struck by lightning. Shocked as they were and scared to move Erith went out of the cave like structure to find no harm but cooked food. The wind picked up and blew Flirey against the wall but around Erith in a spherical shape as if blocked by a boulder. The rain stung Erith, even though he felt no wind the rain penetrated his seemingly safety bubble. Flirey felt no rain just the power of the wind against her body crushing her. Erith grabbed the food quickly and ran over to her, where united they felt neither rain nor wind. No dirt flew into their faces no lightning struck their rock, they were safe, safe together that is. The storm seemed to last forever all night but at least they had a cooked meal and water just at their feet which Flirey drank out of an acorn top and Erith a canister he’s had hooked to his belt. Flirey asked Erith why he wished not to find a new home of his own, after all that is what she is doing, at teen age that is only proper. Erith responded shocked with this, saying how he does not go to find a place and family of his own until min. age of 18. That is at least 3 years from now. After, Erith explained that it was best to travel nights and walk days. They decide to talk in their cave for the day. The talked of their past and how things in their lives matched, but they never met. They talked of the relationship they had with different people. When Erith suddenly remembered and popped the question of what was wrong with her when she fell off of the stump earlier. She said she heard a deep rumbling right next to her, and then Erith started to laugh, scaring Flirey with this outbreak of hysteria. She looked angry as Erith glanced over when he was done. He opened his mouth to say something and she stuck her nose up in the air and fluttered her wings barely lifting herself from the ground without noticing and stormed off stamping her feet as she went. Erith stood there, unsure if he should follow so decided to let her cool off. Erith lost track of time doodling pictures of pizza with steaming sizzling pepperoni and eggs for breakfast with hot melted cheese, and other different items when he realized that Flirey had not returned and the sun was beginning to set. He started to worry calling out her name standing at the edge of the cave panicking and wondering out loud if he had made her that mad or if something happened. “One I have been here most of the day, I only left for about 2 min.” Flirey said standing on a pebble in the corner as Erith flopped around shocked and falling on his butt as his feet flew out from under him. “Two, I was just upset not mad,” Flirey continued, when Erith attempted to interrupt to apologize. But Flirey continued on, obviously still angry from before and for him not worrying earlier or noticing her presence, “Three, I can very well take care of myself, and I don’t need you to survive she said limping from her broken leg over to the fallen and startled boy’s face to glare at him eye to eye. Erith stood and apologized to Flirey for laughing at her, and forgetting momentarily about her, AND not noticing she was there all day. After his apologies were accepted he explained the rumble she had heard causing her freak out a while back, was just his stomach growling; after all he was hungry.
