Flirey and Erith...Chapter 2

Chapter 2 Flirey’s shame
Flirey is lifted into the air on a chair fit for a queen by her family and flown into the arena where the competition was about to begin. Flirey began to panic as she was dropped at the starting line, and her family began to gloat. “Isn’t she the most beautiful of us all!” her father Kip chuckled. “She has always been the most graceful on her feet; imagine how her flying will be! She will be extraordinary!” screamed her mother Chip. “I will be so proud to be her older sister and to see her share my talents!” said her sister Louise proudly.
“Start you’re fluttering and let us feel the wind on our faces!” shouted the announcer. All at once the other fairies began flapping their wings in preparation, all except Flirey.
I just need to do what the others are, why can’t I control myself? I’m just too nervous, I can’t move thought Flirey, as her stomach began to turn and twist in knots. She felt she might vomit! I need to escape; I failed them and those all around me. It felt like days going by in seconds as she frantically scanned her resources for other options-- anything but running, she could never get far enough by foot.
Yelling surged through the crowd as the announcer released the suspense and allowed the race to begin. Flirey could not hear or think. She felt defeated, surrounded, and pressured as the fairies sped by. All was in a freeze frame. She could see the shame and disappointment form and develop in each of her family’s eyes. Her legs began to shake; there were no other options, no escape. Her knees buckled and collapsed as she fell to the floor, feeling all the vibrations move as one as all stood astounded with this new fairy’s impossible move.
In one move, unknowingly she had forfeited the race and all of her family’s pride. The expressions in their eyes shattered and swelled with tears. Little did she know this was the beginning of her importance and her destiny. All the while she had lowered herself and curled up onto the floor and fainted. Everything else was all a blur-- if she remembered at all.
Flirey’s banish
Her family was suddenly enlightened on what to do! They quickly lifted Flirey and changed her outfit, attached a note and flew through the dark tunnel, dragging Flirey violently on the moist jagged ground, tearing her already tattered clothing and embedding rocks in her skin. By the time they reached the opening of the tunnel, she was damp, muddy and had blood dried on her legs and face. They saw the wind was picking up, which was a danger to fairies so they flew Flirey onto a cliff, where the only way down was to fly and left her there.
When Flirey awoke the first thing she noticed was her outfit change. “They changed my clothes, most likely when I was passed out. OHH, a note,
Flirey, you must know
You’re standing on a cliff now
We changed you into rags
So you will not be recognized
You may not return home
Unless you learn to fly and redeem yourself!
Your loving family
P.S. winds are picking up, learn soon!
“I can’t believe I’ve been banished, maybe if I jump my wings will work!” exclaimed Flirey.
Erith’s loss
Erith was now in the middle of dinner, when he went to rummaging through his pockets once again for his phone. Unfortunately, this time nothing turned up! “I lost my phone,” shouted Erith accidentally aloud.
Both his parents were shocked by this outburst. “You have NEVER lost anything before” said his parents outraged. “You must have… lost it outside or something. Go and look for it, it was very expensive,” said his parents in a calming voice. “NOW!” said Erith defiantly. “NOW!” yelled his parents angrily. “But I just had it in the bathroom,” Erith said panicked running to the restroom to check only to find nothing. “Go and check and retrace all of your steps and you will find it,” his parents said as he returned.
Flirey’s trip
Flirey slowly rose to her feet looking down nervously, still shaking from her failure and being cut up from the 3-mile tunnel she was forced through. And before she could convince herself otherwise, she jumped.
Her wings spread and she could feel the wind, but she was falling, so she closed her eyes and waited for her demise.
At that moment a leaf was blown up off the black charcoal ground and slammed into Flirey with such a force that again knocked Flirey unconscious. Even though this was an undetermined trip, it actually was destiny, and safer than if she had returned to her family.
Flirey’s home was taking a blow; the light of the fairies was Flirey and her family, Flirey being the strongest of them all. Her home was running out of light and water, their life underground was disintegrating as they knew it. Her family said nothing about the banishing. They simply said, “She died of embarrassment.”
Erith’s destiny begins
Erith reluctantly sets his fork down on the oak table and looks upon his steaming full plate of his untouched balanced meal, and turns away from the table kissing his parents, with apologies included, as he headed out the glass door.
He begins to head down toward the field across from his house where all the wild flowers bloom yearly. As he is crossing the deserted street an unexpected event of destiny occurred.
A horse from the therapeutic center down the street had just been bought and in the middle of being saddled up for training, he ran away and was headed down the road.
The horse charged head down toward the boy crossing the road at that moment and made contact. The next minute he knew he blacked out.
Erith’s return to reality
Erith is wakened by a series of bumps as a chocolate colored horse with white spots raced through tall trees and over colored mossy ground with the grace and destination of a determined stallion. The first thing he realized, his foot caught in the olive green reins of the horse and the next was somehow he was on top of a small and young horse. He remembered being charged, but how he ended up not trampled, unharmed, and on top of the horse was a mystery. One he would have to solve later on. All he could think of now was how to get down.
