Pete didn't want to stare, but he couldn't take his eyes off of Kenny's arm.  It was smaller around than his other arm, and extended just a few inches past his elbow.  Pete thought he was an amputee, until he noticed the fingerlike appendages, gripping the strap to his backpack, as he held it onto his shoulder.  He decided not to ask him about his arm, but in his head, Pete couldn't help but wonder what had happened.  He met a couple of the other students, but they didn't seem particularly interested in anything other than what had just happened to the seagull.  Animal control had shown up by this time, and everyone was laughing, watching the officers, trying to capture the injured fowl.  Pete flipped his cigarette across the parking lot, as the bell rang to begin his first class.

Bean walked with him, showing Pete where all the different groups of students hung out along the way.  The skaters pretty much went where they wanted, but mostly hung out at Hardee's in the mornings, while the goths hung out at the opposite end of the road, across from the school.  The rednecks all hung out around their trucks, which were usually parked along the west side of the school, with their rebel flags waving in the crisp morning air.  The gangsters, what few there seemed to be at this school, much to Pete's surprise, would hang out in the parking lot and listen to their music, a familiar smell wafting through the air around them.  Finally, the tour was over, as they made it to their homeroom class, officially beginning the start of Pete's new school year.

Pete went up and introduced himself to his teacher, before taking his seat.  The student next to him was fidgeting with a brown paper bag in his lap, which Pete noticed to be a bag from Hardee's, as he pulled the contents out and laid them on his desk.  One sausage biscuit and single package of grape jelly, and some hash rounds.  Pete laughed to himself, "he must've missed breakfast," he thought, as he pulled his english book from his backpack and got ready for class to begin.

seekerovtruth Agh the segregation of students. I remember it well. I never did find a group that I fit into their mold. I always intermingled with them all but never seemed to feel I was a part of any. I dubbed myself a lone wolf and even to this day still carry that trait with me.
