No More Fences Part 9
|
The next two hours seemed to fly by for Pete, who was feeling pretty confident about his test scores. He was surprised by how easy the answers seemed to come to him, even though he had always been good at taking tests. He walked down the hallway, towards the door, trying to figure out his way to the cafeteria, when he bumped into Crystal. "Where's the cafeteria," he asked her, as his stomach started to yell out in protest. "You don't want that," she replied to him, with a look of disgust spread over her face. "We are all going to Pizza Hut, if ya wanna join us," She offered. Pete couldn't turn down Pizza Hut, it was his favorite pizza, and he rarely had the chance to eat it back home, unless he wanted to drive forty five minutes to the next city.
Pete crammed himself into the backseat of Crystal's Chevette, rather uncomfortably, but he was able to get in and buckle up. Her boyfriend, James, also rode along, and they were going to meet some of their friends, who were riding in a different car. Pete wasn't used to being able to leave school during lunch, since there was nowhere close enough to his old school to go for lunch, they didn't have the choice to leave. Too bad he didn't bring his cigarettes, he thought to himself, as they pulled out of the school parking lot.
They pulled into the Pizza Hut parking lot, but their friends had not yet arrived, so they went inside to wait. Finally, they got there after a few minutes, and Crystal began with the introductions. "Pete, this is Paul," she said, as Paul reached out to shake Pete's hand. Pete extended his hand to shake Paul's, when he heard a very familiar laughing coming from behind his left shoulder. He turned around to see who it was, and was surprised, when he noticed the two boys from the test that morning. "And I hear you've already met David and Bean," Crystal continued, motioning towards the two boys who had gotten a good laugh at his expense, earlier in the day. "Yeah, we've met," Pete mumbled, as he made his way to the buffet for some pizza.
They all ordered their meals seperate, so when the check came, Pete started getting worried, since he still hadn't found a job, and he didn't have the six dollars to cover his bill. He tried to borrow some money from Crystal, who told him that she barely had enough for her check. this made Pete even more frantic. Class started in half an hour, and everyone was getting ready to leave. "Follow my lead, and go to the restroom," Bean told him, pointing to the restrooms, which were conveniently located right next to the front door. They went to the restrooms, and very silently, they snuck out the front door to Bean's car, which was also conveniently parked right across from the front door. A few seconds later, David came running out, and Bean threw the car in reverse, and headed back to the school.
"Ya want one?" Bean asked, as he lit a cigarette. Of course he wanted one, especially now that his heartbeat was racing from the excitement of his first dine and dash. Bean then explained to Pete that as long as he was in class by time the second bell rung, he was able to smoke between classes. This was music to Pete's ears. No longerwould he have to sneak around risking suspension for smoking on school grounds, he only had to go off school property, which wasjust across the street. He also told Pete that alot of students hang out in the parking lot of Hardee's, which was right across the street, and he could introduce him to some people, if Pete was interested.

I'm thinking smoking is the least of Pete's problems if he gets caught for the dine and dash. lol Now he's just nixed his favorite eating spot from the places he can go. Pete, Pete, Pete. (shaking head) haha |
