Unexpected Stranger Chapter 1
|
Avery sat with her eyes closed and legs dangaling over the edge of a bridge while enjoying the hot summer sun. Tomorrow she was going to her dads for the rest of the summer.
When Avery was twelve two things happend to her. First her parents annonced they were getting a divorce. Durinmg the divorce she had started to hear people's thoughts. Everyone thought she was only trying to keep her paretns together by having them focus on her, but they were wrong. Avery kept insisting she could hear people's thoughts, even after the divorce had been finalized, so her parents had taken her to see a phyciatrist. She soon learned people would just look at her as someone crazy if she told them she knew what they were thinking, with that she decided to tell everyone that she couldn't hear them anymore.
"Hi Emma." Avery said when she heard one of Emma's thoughts float across her mind.
Emma plopped down next to her, "I seriously need to learn how to do that." She laughed. "So tomorrow your leaving me to enjoy summer by myself, aren't ya?"
"Uh-huh." Avery was lost in the sound of nature and the low buzz of peoples thoughts flying through her head.
Emma noticed Averys absent-mindness and said, "Well I'm going to go jump off a cliff, bye." She got up and started to walk away.
"Bye." She can't be seriously not coming. Emma's thoughts came flooding into her mind. Avery Stoop up and quickly ran to catch up to Emma. "Sorry I was lost in thought."
"Oh I couldn't tell." Emma said sarcastically. We gotta hurry up/Zack and Brock/ ice cream parlor.
"So where we going?" Avery asked even though she already knew the answer.
"To get some ice cream, and you know meet up with some guys or something." Emma was back to her boy-crazy self.
"Really now? Well, I'll talk to you later." Avery started to turn around, but Emma grabbed her by the arm.
"Oh no you don't. Your coming whether you like it or not. You have to atleast think someone in our small desolite town in cute."
Avery flinched. Sure she thought some guys were cute, but being able to here their thoughts was a really downer somethings. "Ya, ok sure." was all she said.
Ten minutes later Avery and Emma were sitting in the towns local ice cream parlor talking to Brock Charles, and Zack Stingbom, both of them we football stars. "So what are your plans for the summer Avery?"
"I'm going to my dad's in North Carolina. How about yourself?"
Damn, I was hoping I could get her.. Avery tried her best to block out his thoughts and not grimace. "Oh that cool. Me and Brock are just working out and partying."
"Hey maybe i'll see you at some of them." Emma cut in, noticing Averys distace in Zack.
After about another twenty minutes of talking Avery made up the excuse of having to finish packing. She insisted Emma should say and left before they all came with her.
The walk home for Avery had was always enjoyable. She got to see her whole town and listen to all the sounds around her. On other edays things usually seemed peaceful, but today there was something different. Half way down and alleyway Avery heard only one sound, everything else was deafinaly quiet. She quickened her pace not wanting to know what was making the growling noise.
She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw three oversived wolfes standing ten feet in front of her. She started to back away, but they moved forward. Avery tripped on something and was lying on her back. the growls got louder and she curled up in a ball. Then she heard a thud and whimpering . Avery opened her eyes to see a person in a black cloak standing in front of her. He was about 6 feet tall, had brown hair, smokey blue eyes, and pale skin. the person started to walk away.
"Wait!" He stopped at the sound of her voice. "Who are you." A static noise started to fill her head and images that she couldn't make out started to flow through her mind.
"We will meet again." was all he said.
Avery opened her eyes and the person was gone. When she got up she realized her shirt was sticking to her side. She gave a little shriek when she saw blood seeping through her shirt.
"Calm down its just a cut." she told herself. Avery then got home as quick as possible. She dashed up to her room before her mom saw her and ran into her bathroom. Avery gingerly lifter her shirt off the cut and took it off. The she wipped off the blood and cleaned out the cut. It was bigger than what she thought it would be, but she wrapped it up with some cloth and left her bathroom to get another shirt.
Just as she had gotten the shirt on, her mom knocked and entered her room. "Hey honey. Where have you been?"
"just hanging out with Emma."
Of course. That thought of her mom's stood out from the others. "Oh really. So why'd you come flying inside so fast?
"I left my cell phone here and I thought I was gonna miss a call from Zack." She said quickly.
"Oh ok. Supper in ten." her mom left her room then.
Avery smiled. "Another plus when being able to hear people's thoughts. More time to think of lies." she thought to herself. Just as Avery sat down on her bed an image of the mysterious guy flashed into her mind. "We will meet again and i'm looking forward to it." She whispered.
