Salt water sprayed me in the face. Some leaked into my eyes; I squint. I see the horizon off in the distance. It is the most beautiful thing I have every seen. I feel the rock of the boat as it sways with the waves. The smell of fish is all around me.
I get as high as I can on the ship. I look out ahead of the ship and see a faint outline of something along the horizon.
“Land ho!” I scream. No one hears me over the noise of the sea. I try again, but still no response. I climb down as fast as I can
“Cap’n,” I say as I run to his quarters, “we are approaching land.”
“Finally,” he says drunkenly. He puts down his bottle of rum and heads the noise of the deck. I follow.
By now other members of the crew have started to notice the land we are fast approaching. The captain checks his compass and mumbles under his breath. I hear whispers from the crew. We are fast approaching the port of Tortuga.
Tortuga has been a pirate port for as long as anyone can remember. The port used to lay claim to the Spanish, but fell into the hands of the Pirates. It is a great place to find willing crew members, or to just take a pit stop to reload on supplies.
On land I found many a lady who wished for me to stay with them, but I can't. My heart lies with the sea.
We left Tortuga before the sun had set, and I was happy to be at sea again. Five days into our voyage, we got into a battle with the Seventh Sanctom. I was blown off the ship, and left to float in the misty abyss of the Ocean. I dyed in the arms of my one true love…the sea.Comments
