False Security. Chapter 2

Monday, school, joy.  I would have to see Micheal, considering that he is in all of my classes, and I don’t think that I can take that.

“Mom I don’t feel good,” I said as she walked into my room to wake me.

“What’s the matter honey?” she asked politely

            “My stomach hurts,” I lied.

“Let me go get the thermometer,” she said and left the room.

Shit. I forgot about that.  Mom only lets me stay home if I have a fever.

Mom reappeared around the doorway, “Here you go,” she said and stuck the thermometer in my mouth.

The thermometer felt warm and alive next to my tongue.  I tried not to cry as memories of the last two days flooded into my head.  My mom would only make me tell her and I didn’t want her to know.

“98.6,” she said, “Get up, and go to school”

I got ready, got into my car, and drove to Layney’s house.  I always picked her up for school.

“Hey!” she said then she stopped, “What’s wrong?”

So I told her, everything that had happened over the weekend.  I started with the movies and ended with this morning.  All throughout my story she looked shocked.

“But…wasn’t he…” she trailed off as I nodded and parked the car.  I knew what she was going to ask.

“Katelyn, I’m so sorry. We both trusted him.  I wish that I could take back what happened to you or tell you that it didn’t happen and was all a dream but I can't and I’m sorry,” she hugged me.

            The bell rang.

“I guess it’s time to face him and life again, huh?” I asked. She didn’t answer.

I didn’t see Micheal all day, or the day after that, or the day after that.  No one saw him.  His parents asked me if I knew where he was and I said no.  I  managed to lock those memories away under lock and key in my memory, but I always wondered what happened to him, he seemed to just have disappeared.
