“What are you doing here,” Virginia said to Danny. She narrowed her eyes, looking like a cat that was about to pounce on it‘s prey. Todd grabbed her hand that was balled into a fist. He was trying to calm her down, but she was so angry she didn’t even notice.

“I…um,” Danny didn’t know what to say. He called Virginia, but her mom told him she was at the hospital with Todd. He was angry, and wanted to confront her, but seeing how upset Virginia was he just couldn’t bring himself to be angry at her anymore.

He hated seeing her upset, and lately he’s been seeing her like that a lot. Deep down he knew it was his fault, but he couldn’t stop himself from acting that way. He was conceded and stupid, and made a big mistake by losing Virginia. “I-I’m sorry, Virginia.”

“What?” She couldn’t believe her ears. Jock, jerk Danny was actually apologizing?

“You heard me,” he said quietly, looking down at his feet. Virginia was very confused. She didn’t know if she could trust what he was saying, but he did sound sincere. Todd shook her hand a little. She looked down at him, and he smiled at her.

“I guess…I accept your…apology.”

“Really?”

“Against my better judgment….yes.”

“Oh, that’s great,” he ran over and gave Virginia a hug that felt a lot like Lily’s rib cracking ones. Once he let go he looked at Todd and said: “Take care of her, and if you ever do anything to hurt her you’ll have to answer to me and the whole football team.”

Virginia’s eyes were wide with surprise, but Todd didn’t even seem shaken.

“I don’t think you’ll ever have to worry about that.” Todd gave Virginia a look that made her heart burst.

“Well, I better get going. I’ll see you two later.” With that he ran happily out of the room.

“Wow,” Virginia said. She honestly didn’t know what to say. She never thought Danny could care about her. That unnecessary warning showed that.

“Well, you don’t see something like that everyday,” Todd said. He looked as shocked as she did. Virginia burst out laughing at the look on his face.

She bent down an laid her head on his chest again, and laughed so hard she was near tears. It felt good to laugh after everything that happened in the past two days. She was relived and happy. With his good hand, Todd started to stroke Virginia’s hair. She looked up at his touch and grabbed his hand and kissed it. She then moved her head up to his face, and finally kissed him. Virginia never felt this way about a boy. Virginia knew she loved him, but she wanted to take everything slow. She was determined not to rush this relationship like she did with Danny, but she had a feeling that she would never have to worry about that.

“awwwwww,” a voice said from behind them. Virginia begrudgingly got up, and saw Lily standing at the door with her hands to her heart. “I knew you two were M.F.E.O!”

“What?” Todd said, irritated from being interrupted again.

“It means, that your made-for-each-other. Get it? It’s like that song by Jack‘s Mannequin.”

“Ugh, did you find mom yet?”

“Yeah she’s in the Cafeteria, but she’s still eating so I decided to come up here, but I guess that was a bad idea. I think I’ll take a walk, and leave you two love birds alone. See ya.” She skipped out of the room humming ‘M.F.E.O’.

“So, where were we?” Todd said as Virginia turned to look at him. He winked at her as she laughed and bent her head down to kiss him once more.

Three months later a chilly fall breeze followed Todd and Virginia as they walked (in Todd’s case limped) out of school.

“Uh, I can barely move,” Todd said. He finally was out of his cast, but he still had trouble walking.

“The cold weather is probably what made your leg all stiff,” Virginia said as she looped her arm through his. “Once we get to the car I’ll turn the heaters on and you’ll be fine.”

“Aw, you spoil me,” He kissed her softly on the top of her head.

“Nothing but the best for my gimpy.”

“Ha ha, cute pet name,” she laughed at his sarcasm. “Now what shall yours be?”

“Nothing, if you want to stay healthy,” she hated pet names.

“Ok, Nothing, Where‘d you park the car?” Virginia stopped and glared at him, but softened her expression when he started to laugh. She loved his stupid humor.

Once they found the car and got inside, Virginia started it and turned the heater on high. As they waited in the line of cars trying to get away from the school, Todd turned the radio on to his favorite station. “I love this song!” he said excitedly as he started to dance wildly in the car seat.

“Your such a goofball,” Virginia said as she laughed at him. But you’re my goofball, she thought, smiling to herself. The past few months being with Todd were the best Virginia‘s ever had. All the time she spent upset over her horrible relationship with Danny were a thing of the past. She could hardly remember a time when she was pacing angrily back and forth, as Todd listened to her rant and rave. She was incredibly happy now, and she knew it was all because of him. As she stared at her sweet, silly Todd dancing all around, and singing at top volume to the song, she thought that she would never regret doing what she felt was right.
