It was so cold. I shivered through my thin shawl. I could feel the enemy was getting closer. I had to tell him. He was not prepared for this fight, they were outnumbered by many, but I was not supposed to be here. He forbade me to come, but I did not listen. They were getting even closer. Everything I did to try and stop this from ever happening had failed. They were coming now and were stronger then ever. I could not take it anymore I had to tell him. I ran from the tree I used for protection, and out into the open field. I heard gasps and murmurs from the other men as I ran up to him. He was sitting on his fine white horse looking like he could kill them all by himself, but he was terribly mistaken.
“What are you doing here!” He roared when he saw me.
“Listen, please, please listen.” I yelled up to him. I could feel that I was going to cry. I knew what the outcome would be if they fought. I could not let that happen. “They are coming quickly, and are too strong for you. Turn back now, and I will tell them you never showed up.” He stared at me disbelievingly. “Please, please, please.” I begged to him, as I fell to my knees and sobbed. I stared into his deep eyes. It worked. He was about to turn his head to the soldiers, and give the order, but it was too late. Black shapes began to appear against the sinking sun.
I could not believe it. More and more of them lined up against the horizon. “You have to go now!” He said to me. I stared at him dumbfounded and speechless. “Just go, please.” He was using the same tactic that I used to make me leave. I knew I could not stop him now, he was determined. It was useless. I turned and started to run back into the forest, but I did not leave. I stood behind a tree and watched from afar. I decided that this would be my punishment for my reckless, stupidity. I stared at him as he prepared for the battle. At that moment I wished we had never met. I never deserved him. Our love was tainted from the beginning because of me. I could see it all, but I would never tell him. That’s where I went wrong, and that’s why I deserved to watch him die now.
They were marching closer and closer. He raised his sword high and let out a loud battle cry. My heart was sinking quickly, and hot tears were pouring from my eyes. At that moment he looked over at the tree I was behind. He knew I was here, waiting, hoping the outcome would be different. I wished I could have told him I loved him before running to hide. I wished I could have told him everything, but it was all too late.
