Doing What Feels Right (3) Suprise Visit
|
For once Virginia wasn’t pacing back in forth in her room. Instead she was sitting on her bed waiting anxiously for it to finally be ten a.m. Mrs. Whitlock called to tell her to be at the hospital by a quarter after ten to see Todd. She stared impatiently at the clock. “Come on, come on.” She thought. There was only two minutes until she could go. She would’ve left the minute after the call, and waited in the waiting room for two hours, but her mother wouldn’t let her. She took her key’s off of her and won’t give them back until it’s ten o’ clock.
“Finally it’s ten!” She said aloud. She grabbed her purse, and flew down the stairs, nearly running over her two large cats in the process. Her mother was holding her keys at the foot of the stairs. “Here you go” Mrs. Richmond said.
“Thanks, love you, bye.” Virginia said quickly as she grabbed the key’s, kissed her mom, and ran out the door.
Virginia was a bunch of nerves as she drove down the highway to the hospital. Everything she was worrying about last night began to rear it’s ugly head in her mind. She almost hit another car as she accidentally swerved a little into the next lane. “Crap,” she thought, “I better pay attention, or I’m going to end up like Todd.” As she tried to pay strict attention to the road she couldn’t help wondering how she actually made it to the hospital last night - in the state that she was in - unscathed.
After it took her five minutes to find a parking spot in the crowded lot, she went up to the 2nd floor and found Lily sitting in the same set of uncomfortable waiting room chairs. “Hey!” Lily said, as she bounded over and gave Virginia one of her rib breaking hugs. “Can we see Todd now?” Virginia asked excitedly.
“Yes, let’s go!” Lily grabbed Virginia’s hand and they went flying down the hall. To Virginia, Lily looked as excited as her to see Todd. They slowed to a quick walk when a nurse yelled at them. “Ugh, meanie,” Lily groaned. “I’m just so excited to see him. He wasn’t awake when we first came, so I volunteered to wait for you. He’s probably awake by now. Aren’t you excited too?”
“Oh, I’ve been waiting all morning to see him.” Virginia had a dreamy look on her face as she thought of seeing Todd’s sparkling blue eye’s and his big bright smile. Lily noticed this look.
“hmmm.” Lily stopped walking.
“What?”
“Is there something going on between you two?”
“Why do you ask?” Virginia turned her head to the window so Lily didn’t see her blush.
“Oh, because he wouldn’t shut up about you on the way home from my band practice last night.”
“Really?!” She was shocked.
“Yeah, ‘Virginia this, Virginia that, Virginia, Virginia, Virginia.’ That’s all he talked about. No offense, but I got sick of hearing your name after awhile.”
“Wow.” Virginia started to blush again, and this time Lily saw it.
“So there is something between you two. I knew it.” Lily was proud that she actually figured something out without much help.
“I guess so, I really don’t know.”
“Well what happened?” Virginia told her the whole story, and Lily nearly fell over when she told her about the kiss. “He kissed you! Oh my god, I didn’t think my brother was brave enough. Ha ha.”
They started their quick walk again down the hallway until they finally got to the room. Virginia’s nerves kicked in full force, and her heart began to pound against her chest. She slowly walked into the room and saw that Todd was awake staring up - but not really watching - the T.V. He looked over when he heard them walk in.
“Hey!,” He said, looking more at Virginia then his sister. Lily walked over and gave him a big hug. “Hey, hey, hey!” He said. “Some of my ribs are already cracked. I don’t need you to break more.”
“Well I’m sorry I’m glad to see you.” Lily said a little ticked off, but laughing in spite of herself . “Do you know where mom is?”
“No, I just woke up a few minutes ago. I didn’t even know she was here.” Todd wasn’t looking at Lily. Instead he was smiling at Virginia, and she smiled back.
“Well,” Lily said in a loud, fake voice. “I think I’ll go look for her. See you two later.” She shook her head at the non responding pair and walked out of the room.
Virginia couldn’t contain her excitement any longer. She ran over to his bed and gave Todd a huge hug. Virginia looked up with a big smile on face, matching the one that was on Todd’s. “Now you, I don’t mind breaking my ribs.” He said. Virginia was surprised to feel tears coming to her eyes. “Crap.” She said as she tried to wipe away the tears.
“Come here,” Todd said. He hugged her with his good arm, and she just stayed there, not wanting to move. She felt so safe and warm with him. She felt like no one on earth could make her feel bad or hurt her. At that moment everything felt right. “Feeling better?” he asked, as she got up after a few minutes.
“Yes, much better.” She looked momentarily at him. Then she brought her head down to kiss him. Just before their lips met there was a sharp knock on the door. “Come in.” Todd groaned. Virginia spun around, and much to her surprise saw Danny standing in the room.
