Chapter 6

I sat there blankly staring at the phone and the card wondering if I should use the number. A million questions ran through my head.

Why she wants me to call her?

She didn’t have anything to do with the robbery and/or shooting, did she? It is a little weird she wants to talk to me after the fact.

Of course not! Did she even know? I guess I should call her.

The house was empty. Reggie had to go to work and the restaurant was closed for today since it was Sunday. I dialed the numbers that were printed on the card. The phone rang a couple of times before a lady picked up.

“This is part owner of Johnson’s Car Inc., how may I be of service?”

I recognized it was Marissa and immediately said, “Hi, this Justice from the restaurant.”

“Oh Justice! Nice of you to call, I wasn’t expecting it so soon.”

“Well I was curious of what you had in mind and why you wanted me to call.”

She paused for a second and said, “Ah yes. This is business I’ve been meaning to talk to you about. It is about your restaurant.”

I scratched my chin confusedly, “Continue.” I said raising a curious eyebrow.

“Well me and my partner, my brother would like to buy the restaurant. And we are willing to pay a huge fee in hard cold cash, half a million dollars!!” She said excitedly as if knowing she just sealed the deal.

My eyes widened at the amount of money then I let out an exaggerated sigh thinking of Lita. “Hold on because we’ve raised that restaurant out of not only financial benefits but emotional reasons we’ve had since our childhood. We’ll definitely get back to you on that.” I said.

“We?” She asked with a hint of disapproval in her voice.

“Yes me and my sister the other owner of the restaurant.” I said nodding to my own statement.

“Ok. Well make a decision and get to me as soon as possible.” She said. I could sense her giving off a fake smile through the phone. I knew she was dissatisfied like a motherfucker!

“Will do. Thank you for the offer.”

“Of course, anytime,” She said.

Short Meeting

“No! Hell no! We agreed to keep that restaurant as long as possible and make it a legacy throughout the family!” She said slapping the back of her hand in the other to emphasize her seriousness. I sat on her couch nodding at what she was saying.

“I knew you were going to say that.” I said nodding. “Well that’s what I thought. I guess it’s a confirmed no.”

I dug into my pocket and grabbed both my cell phone and her card. I dialed the numbers rapidly and waited on her to answer. She did her introduction again and I said, “This is Justice.”

“Yes?” She said preparing herself for the answer.

“The answer is no. I’m sorry but we truly thank you for the offer. It was very generous.”

It was quiet on her end I heard her sniff as if she was…crying. “The offer still stands but thank you for your time.”

I looked at Lita. “Ol’ girl was crying.” I said frowning.

She shrugged and went into her room. She didn’t seem fazed at all however this bewildered me.
