Chapter 3

Reggie

I stepped into the bank and looked around. It was 2:58 PM and my shift just started basically. The other security guard nodded and left out the door behind me. I stood in my position and lurked. People were normally waiting to be helped in line.

A woman that looked all high and mighty came in and stormed to the front.

“I need to take money out of my account.” She said loudly and hurriedly.

“Ma’am you have to wait your turn.” The fellow employee politely informed her.

“I need my money now!” She said.

“You’ll have to wait your turn ma’am. That is the rule in here.” She repeated firmly displaying her impatience with her stiffness.

“Do you know who I am?!” The customer boomed. She glanced at me and slightly softened her facial expression. She cleared her throat and softly stated, “Fine, I’ll wait.”

She stepped her way out of line and strutted her way over to me. She then passed me up and made her way to the bathroom. I blew out a breath of air relieved she cooperated.

“Um sir?” I heard her voice from behind me.

I slowly turned around facing her. She stood what seemed about a half a foot below me, “Yes?” I said curious of what her reason for approaching me for.

“The door to the bathroom seems to be stuck.” She said.

I frowned confused at the sudden complaint and went to see what the problem was. I tried to open the door and it was indeed stuck. I used both arms and gripped the handle and began to use all my strength to open the door. “Move back,” I said to the woman who was standing directly behind me.

She moved a few steps back and I continued to yank the door. It finally opened after about five attempts.

“Thank you,” She said and went into the bathroom. I went back to my usual spot and stayed on duty. She then exited the bathroom after a few minutes and left the building. Strange. I thought. Didn’t she just want something out of the bank?

I gave the clerk a bewildered look and she also shrugged. I shook my head and went to the bathroom to wash my hands since they got sweaty from the door handle.

I rinsed my hands of and wiped them on the back of my pants so they could completely be dry. I then noticed that the picture of Jay was gone. That picture stayed in my back pocket so I know I didn’t misplace it. I also remember placing it firmly back into my back pocket after it fell out while I was driving.

“Why she take a picture of my wife?!” I asked myself aloud.
