Chapter 2

All that time Marissa has been eyeing me, smiling, smirking and talking to her partner that I found out was her brother. After closing the place down for the night I approached Lita as she was going to her car.

“Lita, did you see that woman eyeing me the whole time?” I said referring to Marissa.

“No. They were cool. I love to see black people doing business like civilized human beings.” She said unlocking her doors and opening the door.

“I don’t know. I just felt her eyes following throughout the whole restaurant.”

“Maybe she’s gay.” She said chuckling and sitting down in the car.

I laughed. “Right, I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Later.” She slammed her door and started the car.

I got into mine and watched her swerve out of the employees’ parking lot and drive off into the night.

Lita

I inserted the key into the knob and twisted it until it unlocked. I made my way to my bedroom and flicked on the light.

“What the fuck?!” I exclaimed. The bedroom has literally been torn up. Papers and clothes and other items of mine were scattered everywhere. The mattress was hanging off of the bed. “Oh no,” I said.

The money that my grandmother gave me through her will was gone. This made me regret my distrust in banks. “Shit!” I yelled.

I knelt down and looked at a picture that was torn in half of me and my sister. “Why?” I mumbled to myself.

I heard the door open to my house. I looked around and grabbed the bat that had been thrown across the room from under my bed.

I crept into the living room where the door was and seen a figure silhouetted by the moon entering through the open door.

“Who are you?!” I screamed as I raised the bat above my head.

“Baby it’s me!” I heard RJ’s voice. He quickly hit the light switch and looked at me with fearful eyes.

I dropped the bat to my side and sighed. I clasped my free hand over my heart. “You scared the shit out of me. I’m got to call the police someone robbed my ass.” I said getting angry at the fact all over again.

“What?!” RJ exclaimed. “What they take?”

“The money my grandmother left for me.”

His eyes widened. “Yo, that was over half a million!” He shouted.

“I know!” I said tears forming in my eyes. The money was part of the reason for my tears but what I had also acknowledged was that they took the picture of my dearest grandmother. I know it had to be someone close. But who?

Justice

I got a call from Lita about the robbery and instantly grew worried when I found out they took her stash and a picture of Grandma Rosa. I was bewildered by that most of all.

I was laid down next to Reggie who was fast asleep. I looked around the dark room and felt a presence. I shook the feeling and went to sleep.
