I kicked and screamed.

"Look kid,I only need a few dollars.I need some liquor,"He pleaded.He didn't sound like too much of a bum.

I stopped and looked at him,"Why didn't you just ask?Besides,we ain't got no money for you.Barely have anythang for ourselves."

"What's dat noise?"

I stayed silent and heard Cassie."That's my daughter.And yo dumb ass woke her up!"

"Listen here if you just got a dollar that'll help."

"What part of we ain't got no money don't you understand you dumb ass."

"Now don't you be cussin' at yo uncle like dat." 

I looked at him like he was retarded."Uncle?I don't have an uncle.Just an aunt that live in Minnesota."

"Kina never told you."

I looked at him confused.He did see as if he'd be in the family.

"How you know my momma's name?"

"I know a lot about you Shanaya.Like I told you,I'm yo uncle."

"You can't be,you're a bum."

He looked at his clothes and laughed."No I just haven't shaved for days and look at this coat.It's old but it ain't got no holes."

He chuckled.

"So why did you scare me like dat?"

"I wanted to see if it was you."

"How come you knew about me but I didn't know about you?"

"I always did have a drinkin' problem.I stopped though.But you're mom wasn't convinced.And I see you sometimes walkin' out yo mama's door lookin' just like her."He smiled."Why you out here?"

"Oh,well Mama kicked us out.I still don't understand why she didn't tell me about you."

He looked at me,"You'll find out things soon.Take care."

He got out of the car and dissapeared.Malik came out with a bunch of groceries.I opened the door for him.He put things in the backseat.I sighed as he came in the car.

He looked at me,"What's wrong?"

"Nothin.'"

He just nodded and turned on the car and drove off.

It was getting darker and Cassie was awoke.I sat in the back with her.The car slowed down and Malik stopped.

"What are you doin'?"

"Dis my boy right here."

A boy and a man came to the car.

"Who dis Loc?"

"We cool.He new on the block.We both need dat fire though."

Malik put his finger telling them to wait.They didn't even notice me or Cassie in the back.Malik went under his seat and pulled out a bag.The man pulled some money and they exchanged.The man put out his hand so they could shake.Malik put his hand out and the man grabbed his arm.

He pulled out a badge.Loc ran.I gasped and almost screamed but I couldn't breathe.Malik punched the man and drove off.I held on to Cassie.

"Oh my fuckin' God!Malik!What the fuck!"

He was speeding like hell!He drove for so many blocks I couldn't barely count them as fast as he was going.

He stopped.I tightened my grip on Cassie's seat.

"Get Cassie and get out!I got this!"

I grabbed Cassie and opened the door.I looked in Malik's window and gave him a kiss.

"I love you girl.I'll be back."He drove off.

I breathed hard still shocked from what just happened.For a minute I was just froze on the street.Until somebody beeped.I took a deep breath and started walking.

I walked down the street.The man that grabbed Malik came in a car.He stopped when he seen me.I shook my head and started running still holding on to Cassie.But he caught.I started to cry.

"Let me go!I didn't do anything!"

"Just talk to me!"

I stopped.

"What was the license number to that car?"

I didn't know the answer seriously.

"I...don't know."

"Come on now!I know you know!You were in the car!"

"I really don't!Honest to God!"

I cried even harder.Cassie was also crying.His partner,which happened to be a woman,came and loosened the police's grip.

"Sweetie don't be scared.You're not going jail.Just tell us who that was."

I was silent.

"Sweetie you have to tell us or you could really go to jail."

"I can't snitch.I just can't."

I cried even harder because that was like a sacrifice.Then something on their walkie talkies came on.It was all static like to me but they understood.

"Ok we're on our way."The woman said."You're coming with us."

"Noooo!"

"Relax.We need you to identify this guy,OK.We won't put you in handcuffs or anything we're gonna just take you down there."

I still cried but I followed them.

*Police Station*

I stood in front of one of those window things where people who were accused of doing a crime came and was identified.I was calm,but my grip on Cassie never loosened.

"Bring them out!"a policemen yelled which startled me.5 people came out.The fourth person was Malik.

"Who is it?"The woman police asked.I stayed silent.

Just then another police came out and looked at me and stared at me as if I looked familiar.

"What is she doin' here?"He asked the woman police.

"Identifying for us,but she won't tell us."

"Don't frighten her.Shanaya gets easily frightened."

I looked at him confused,"Huh?"

"Just tell us who it is then I'll explain."

"Is Shanya out there?!?!?!?!?"Malik exclaimed.The police held him back.

"Dumb kid."The woman police said.

"Don't call him dumb.He might do dumb things but he was good to me!"I cried.She patted me shoulder and turned to the police officer who happened to know me.

"Well now we know who it is." 

She went in and talked to the police in there.He handcuffed Malik and let the others go.He came out the door and look at."I'll be back for you ok?"

I cried and nodded.They took him out of my sight.The policeman that knew me knelt in front of me.

"Sorry you had to see that.Now what are you doin' here?"

"Who are you and how do you know me?"

He swallowed and took a minute to answer.

"I'm uhh...I'm your dad."
