"What am I doin' wit it?Mom what are you doin' wit it?!?"I exclaimed already about to cry.

"I'm the mother,I ask the questions!Now you give me that shit!"

She charged at me with rage in her eyes and put her hand around it but I wouldn't let go.After about five minutes of playing tug-of-war with the stuff it finally slipped out of my hands because they were so sweaty.

"Ma,how could you?You talk about 'Sweety don't you ever do no hard drugs or soft drugs!' but look at you!You're a-a-a freakin' junkie!"

"Don't you call me no junkie!"

"Whay you call...that?"I pointed at the heroine.

"You don't know what the hell I go through.You won't know 'til you're older so you can just shut yo mouth!And what in the hell you doin' here anyway?Didn't I kick you and yo baby out?"she said it as if she was glad.

"Yeah you did.I came here to apologize and change my ways.But what the fuckin' use right."

"Don't you cuss!"

"You my mama?I know you can't be 'cause a real mother wouldn't kick her and her six month year old baby out.I know one thing,when Cassie grow up I won't judge her mistakes."

"Girl,is you tryin' to make some deep words?'Cause yo gon' be against yo own words when she grow up.And I already know that little girl gon' be a whore just like you."

I put my head back in shock.I shook my head and went and grabbed Cassie.

"Shanya I-"

"Naw man don't say nothin to me."I walked downstairs.I opened the door."And I hope you die and rot in Hell."And I slammed the door behind me.

I held my tears as I walked to the van.I opened the door.Malik was talkin' to someone then they shook up and the guy left.Malik turned around with a wad of money in his hand.

"Whoa!How you get that?!?"I said tryin' not to drop Cassie.He grabbed Cassie and put the money in his pocket."You hustlin'?"I whispered.

"I have to.It's the only way really to survive."

"Oh,I don't mind,"I lied,"As long we can eat or somethin.'

"Yeah,we can go to the store now."

We got in the car and he put te keys in the ignition and started and again we were on the move.We talked as he drove.

"So what happened wit yo ma?"He asked glancing at me.

"Didn't go too well.She just don't want me,"I said trying not to sound sad."But I'm ok I'm still doin' me ya know."

"Ok.I know.Oh,here we go."

He parked on a curb in front of a store called "Aldi's."I reached back for Cassie then Malik grabbed my hand.

"Y'all can stay in here.I'm gon' go aight.I got it."

I smiled and nodded.He got out and I watched as he went in and looked through the first aisle and grabbing a box of something.Maybe cereal.I don't know why we don't even have a fridge.Unless...I looked in the big trunk behind the backseats.I was a little cooler.I grinned and went back in the front seat.I shook my head.

"I swear that boy ready,"I thought.

I looked through the driver's side window.And I was startled by a man with a beard and a hat.He looked like a bum.

"Can I help you?"I shouted.Before I knew it he reached for the door handle and and opened the door.My first reflex,was screaming.
