I know what you're thinking.'Evergreene?What was her great-grandmother thinking?'Well they're family is like half Indian.That would explain Shanaya's long hair and  perfectly tan skin,but she spoke like a southern african-american.

"Where's that?"Malik asked.

"It's not too far"Shanaya said.

"I hope not.Because we aint got too much gas."

Shanaya looked at the gas thing and it was like 3 centimeters away from E.

"Shit!"Shanya whispered hitting her leg."You ain't got no money?"

"Only 5 dollars."

Shanya sighed frustrated."Well put it in the tank."

Malik stared at her for minute."Shanaya."

She turned her head towards him."We gon' be alright,O.K.?"

He put his hand on her shoulder.She smiled a little bit and whispered "I know."

He turned back around facing the front and started the car.He pulled off the curb and into the street.

*Grandma Evergreene's house.*

They stopped the car right in front of her driveway.He turned off the car.Shanaya grabbed Cassie's carseat from the backseat.

"I'll be right back.Wait about 10 minutes,O.K.?"She said staring at Malik.He nodded.She tightened her grip on the handle of the carseat and walked to the front porch.

She slowly knocked.She heard a little voice call."Come in."She walked in and there on the couch.She looked a little pale and sick.But when she saw Shanaya her face brightened with joy.

"That's my baby girl."She looked down at Cassie."And she got the baby baby girl."She smiled with delight.She softly touched Cassie's cheek as Cassie still snored.Cassie winced but stayed sound asleep.

"Hi Grandma."She hugged her and stayed in her arms for about one minute.

"You're so warm.Are you angry or sad?Is anything wrong?"

"No."

Grandma Evergreene stared at her.That was the weird thing.Even by the smallest touch or move or sound you make she know how you feel or if anything's on your mind.And she knew how to get them out.

"Grandma might of played dumb but she ain't never been no fool."

"You been listenin' to Plies huh on 'Dey Know Remix.'You still got my CD I made you?"

"Yup.But let us not change the subject and say what is on your mind child."

Shanaya knew she might as well.When her grandma don't use abbreviations she mean business.Shanaya once again let out a long sigh.

"Mama kicked me out with no money."

It was silent for a minute.Then Grandma Evergreene started coughing.She sat up.It sounded as if she was going to cough up a lung.Shanaya quickly patted her back.

"You alright."

Grandma Evergreene began to wheeze.Then she finally caught her breath."You gotta make up with your mama honey."

"I can't.I didn't even do anything this time and she threw me out on da street.Why can't I just stay here?"

Her grandmother shook her head."I got a cough way too bad for you or the baby to be around.Sit here."She patted next to her.Shanaya sat."Now baby I got pneumonia and I can't have you guys around me like that."

Shanaya stopped breathing.She could hardly catch her breath.Grandma Evergreene started hitting her back.

"Child are you ok?"

Shanaya let out a breath.Tear started to stroll down her cheeks.Her grandma embraced her.

"There,there my child."The stroked her hair.

"Why?!?"Shanaya sobbed."How?!?"

"I went to the doctor baby."

"They could be wrong!"

"Baby,I doubt it.They wouldn't make that mistake.Look at me my love."

She grabbed Shanaya's chin.She slowly wiped her tears away.

"Even if I do go,I will always be here,"She pointed to Shanya's head,"and here."And she pointed to Shanaya's heart."Now you keep your head up and go make up with your mom.Life is way too short for this mess O.K."

Shanya nodded.Grandma kissed the tip of her fingers and put them on her forehead.She did the same to Cassie.

"Now go my love."

Shanaya grabbed the carseat and blew a kiss to her grandma and she left.
