I looked down.A tear escaped from my eye and slid down my cheek.
Monique:I'm sorry Vonte.
I half whispered.
Vonte:Sorry don't cut it!You're pregnant and I ain't got nothin to do with it.
Monique:Well now you know how I feel.I wanted a family too.You was just about to get up and leave.What was I supposed to do?Nothing knowing you're in Milwaukee with a family!I had to move on Vonte!
More tears started to fall,but these were tears of anger.I couldn't believe he could be so selfish.
Vonte:Now what you gon' do?You know what.
He started pacing back and forth.Then he stopped and pointed at me.
Vonte:You gotta get an abortion Moe!
Monique:No!
Vonte:What?You gon' ruin yo life for a baby you ain't even supposed o have?
Monique:Vonte I made da mistake.Not dis baby!
I gently touched my stomach.
Vonte:How can you be so stupid?!?
Monique:And how can you be so selfish and cruel?!?I'm having dis baby Vonte,whether you're with me or not!
Vonte slapped me in the face.I covered my face and looked at the floor in shock.I waited for him to do or say something but after that all I heard was rumbling.I looked up to see someone fighting with Vonte.
Keith!
I carefully tried to pull Keith away and trying not to get hit in the stomach.
Monique:Keith stop!
It's not that I didn't want Keith to do it,it was just that Vonte was way too strong for Keith.
Monique:Keith!
But as he was swinging he looked as if he could handle Vonte.I still wanted them to stop.
Monique:Keith!
A man shouted from the top floor of one of the buildings we were in between.It was the same man that saved me from Ronny.
Man:Y'all stop now before I call the police!
The stopped.I was glad to hear his southern strong voice even though he was old,it scared the shit outa both of them.Vonte and Keith were both staring at each other.The were both about the same height but I assumed Vonte was slighlty bigger than Keith.I grabbed Keith's arm.
Monique:Let's go home Keith.
He kept staring at Vonte.
Monique:Keith come on!
He slowly turned around and followed me.I knew he wanted to kill Vonte now.I watched Vonte as we went home.He hadn't moved at all.
