I wrote this when I was 14 (two years ago.) Please let me know what you think.
Part 1 (The Beginning)
It all started out when Timmy was 9 years old. He was having fun playing outside one day with his friends Justin and Otis. When he heard his mother scream as loud as she could, Timmy ran into his 2-bedroom apartment, where he found his mom crying. “Mommy, mommy what’s wrong?” He asked fearing the question he was about to receive. “Timothy it’s your father, hurry and grab mommy the phone.” So of course he ran to retrieve the phone, scared because mommy was in tears and daddy wasn’t moving. “Here mommy.” Timmy handed his mother the phone. She quickly grabbed it and dialed 911, “Oh my God, yes please hurry!” She was ranting and raving falling apart into tears poor little Timmy didn’t know what was going on. Finally about 10 or 15 minutes later an Ambulance arrived, which to Timmy felt like a lifetime. One man dressed in a jumpsuit asked Mrs. Harper, “Ma’am what happened?” She was still falling apart tears rolling down her cheek. “I don’t know he said he was going to take one of his usual naps, but to wake him up at 5 o’clock.” She paused for a minute and noticed her son standing in the corner shaking so she went to comfort him. “Ma’am will you please hurry, what happened when you tried to wake him up?” The paramedic was getting a little frustrated which Mrs. Harper could tell by the tone in his voice so she rushed back over to her husbands side. “Well I called out his name which is Mike and kissed his cheek which usually wakes him up but this time his body shook and then he coughed up blood.” After she said that the paramedic and his partner quickly strapped Mr. Harper onto a stretcher and put him in the back of the ambulance. “Miss are you driving to the hospital or are you and your son going to ride with us?” Without even waiting a second or pausing to answer she pushed Timmy into the back of the ambulance and then hopped in.
Part 2
Timmy was messing around with some magazines and talking non-stop to his imaginary friend Randy, while his mom was trying to talk to the doctor. “TIMOTHY!” His mother snapped, “Ma’am?” He said in a quiet tone, which was so sweet and innocent. “Would you please go talk to Randy elsewhere so mommy can talk to the doctor and see what’s wrong with your daddy?” Smiling as big as he could because he didn’t know what was going on he said, “Sure mommy, come on Randy lets go play a game on the top floor.” Timmy was walking down a long hallway laughing at a joke that Randy had just told, he had heard it plenty of times before but it always seemed to be funnier each time he heard it, especially coming from Randy. “Shhhhh!” Timmy told Randy as he stopped in the middle of the hallway. “You hear that Rand? Someone’s yelling, lets go check it out!” So he and Randy ran to where the yelling was. There was a man who stood about 6’3 yet to Timmy seemed to be about 7’0. He was talking to a woman but Timmy couldn’t see her face. ‘Her voice seems awful familiar.’ He said to himself trying to be as quiet as he could. “So is he here?” The tall man asked. “Of course, your pills apparently did the trick. She called me when her and the kid got to the hospital. She told me when she tried to wake him up he had seizers and coughed up a little blood.” Timmy thought that’s what happened to his dad so naturally he kept listening. “I told you, put a few pills in his drink when no one is looking and they work like a charm, but does anyone else know about this?” He said suddenly his voice had gotten really serious. “No, only you and me, I told her I was going to the Ladies Room so I better head back.” Timmy ran down the stairs to his mother as quickly as possible. Only to find out that his Aunt Gina was right behind him. “Honey where did you go?” His mother screamed to him as he ran up to her. “Mommy you told me and Randy to go play somewhere else, so we went up to the top floor and played “Spy.” Spy was a game of Timmy’s where he would get Randy or another friend of his to play and they would have to Spy on someone. But this time Timmy spied on the wrong people.
Part 3
It was now 11 PM Timmy and his mother had been at the hospital for hours and still haven’t heard word on Mr. Harper. “I wonder what’s taking them so long.” Mrs. Harper said in a worried voice. At just that moment the doctor walked out, and by the look on her face there wasn’t going to be any good news. “Mrs. Harper… I’m sorry but there was nothing we could do. We tried everything, I’m sorry but your husbands dead.” At that moment, that moment of time Timmy’s world was about to fall apart. His one and only father had just died, and not only that but things would fall apart from money issues to his mom to finding out the real reason about his father’s death. Mrs. Harper fell to her knees tears rushing down her cheek, and she kept screaming “Why God why me? Why to us? Why!?” Poor Timmy, when he needed his mother the most she needed him, but there was nothing he could do, being only 9 years old. So he did the only thing that came to mind and went to fall on his knees by his mother and hug her. “Mommy, it’s okay Daddy’s gonna be okay.” She grabbed him and looked him in the eyes, “Timothy baby, you’re daddies not gonna be okay, sweetie you’re daddy’s in Heaven with God now.” He couldn’t accept what she had just said screaming and shouting that he couldn’t be dead, he just couldn’t. “Daddy can’t be dead mommy he can’t! He’s got to take me to football practice Saturday, and teach me all different things, mommy no!” He started falling a part into tears same as his mother beginning to feel so much pain that he thought would kill him. Not wanting to be here anymore because he just lost the only man that he had ever loved. His only father, his only best friend and his coach in life.
Part 4
Timmy is now 10 years old his birthday had just past, and it’s only been 6 months since his father’s death. His mom had gotten on drugs saying that they eased her pain, and made the sorrow go away but if that was so why did she keep taking them. That’s what Timmy thought at least. Every night before he went to sleep he remembered back to that day where his father was just fine laughing and talking, yet just hours later he was dead. He couldn’t imagine how it happened, how could someone who was in perfect health get ill that quick. It was impossible, he also remembered the mysterious woman and tall man from that day in the hospital. Wanting to find out more about what they were talking about but he couldn’t because he had no idea where they lived or who they were. So now that his mother wasn’t working and his dad was gone he and his mom were falling off financially, and since he was so young all he could do was watch as they fell off. They went from having a two bedroom apartment and a happy family, to he and Mrs. Harper sharing a bedroom with one another and her screaming all the time. He had hardly any time to play with his friends anymore, he always had to clean up around the house and make sure mommy didn’t take too many drugs and OD. He was only 10 a little child yet had to be the grown up. He prayed every night that God would change things and make his mommy get off of cocaine, yet it seemed the more he prayed and the harder he tried to stay strong the worse things got. Eventually he just stopped praying all together and lost total faith in God. Because not only did God let his father die without any warning, he also let Timmy’s mother get on drugs and stay doped up all the time. So in his eyes there was no need to pray if his prayers were never to be answered, instead he just stayed strong and went through the bullshit.
Part 5
Aunt Gina was visiting one day for Christmas Break. “Aunt Gina, what’d you get me for Christmas?” Timmy asked trying to get his Aunt to give in and tell him. “Timothy I already told you I can’t tell you until tomorrow when you receive your presents. Besides even if I wanted to tell you, if I did your mother would kill me.” At that they both laughed. Mrs. Harper walked out of the kitchen and asked Timmy to go grab the dishes and set the table while her and her sister talked. “So how’ve you been?” Gina asked, “Well I’m trying to get off of the drugs for Timmy’s sake, he’s seemed so down and out lately. I know that I’m not the only one who’s lost someone but that’s all that I was thinking. You know without Mike around things have just fallen apart, and with me not having a job things aren’t getting any better.” Gina got up and walked over to the sofa and sat down by her sister. “I know it must be hard to have a son who’s so young and know that he won’t ever see his father again, but you have to stay strong for Timmy. Don’t quit, and keep your head up high so that he knows you won’t depend on him.” Gina told her sister. “Oh but I don’t depend on Timmy, and I know that he needs me just as much as I need him. It’s just confusing for he and I to go through this, how in the hell could Mike have died like that, he was in perfect health.” Timmy heard them talking so he was standing behind the kitchen door listening. “Well it was God’s will, and God has a reason for everything that he does, you just have to trust him.” And in Timmy’s mind he was thinking, ‘Trust him? What the hell is on her mind? Trust him, for letting my dad die? She’s a fucking nut. Wait a minute…" He walked over to the door. “Oh Gina, Gina I just don’t think I can hang on without him much longer.” As Mrs. Harper took a sip of her drink Gina was trying to comfort her even more. “But you can’t let go just yet, you have to keep in mind Timmy needs a mother in his life.” ‘She’s the woman from the hospital! That’s how I knew that woman’s voice it was, Aunt Gina! But… But it can’t be, why would Aunt Gina want to hurt my dad, her brother-n-law?’ Timmy had finally discovered the mystery, it may have taken a year but he finally was putting the pieces together.
Part 6
It was now January and Timmy had been following his Aunt around everywhere she went. ‘All I have to do now, is figure out who she was talking to that day at the hospital. I saw his face so I’m sure I would recognize him if I saw him again.’ He wasn’t watching where he was walking and ran into a kid that is obsessed with him. “Hey Timmy! Where ya going?” A kid named Cory asked, “No where Cory, I don’t wanna be rude or anything but can you please leave me alone for today?” With an upsetting look on his face Cory was about to reply when a woman interrupted them. “Timmy! Timmy, what are you doing over here?” It was Timmy’s Aunt, ‘Urgh damn it, I’m suppose to follow her not the other way around.’ “Hey Aunt Gina, nothing really, just hanging out with my good ol’ friend here Cory.” Confused as ever Cory shouted out, “Yeah, yeah! We’re just hanging out, we’re the best of friends.” Rolling his eyes Timmy nodded, “You know it.” She seemed to be in a hurry to get somewhere and quickly told Timmy that she had business to take care of, but don’t stay away from home too late or else his mother would worry. “You don’t have to worry about that Aunt Gina, I’m just fine. Bye.” As she was pulling out of the drive-way Timmy asked Cory, “Hey, can your brother drive me some place? If you come along of course.” “Yeah! Hold on and I’ll go get him.” Cory rushed in the house, and walked out the door with his big brother Justin, “Yo kid, where you gotta go?” Justin was probably one of the coolest kids in town and if you got a favor by him, you were important, that’s just how it went. “I need to follow that car.” Pointing at his Aunt’s car, which was going quite fast. “Aight kid hop in the whip lets go. Why you wanting to follow this chick anyways, she a little too old for you so I know you aint got no crush on her. Aha” Justin was joking around. “Nah nothing like that, she’s my Aunt and lets just say she’s got a big secret that is about to be not so secretive, if ya know what I mean.” Giving Timmy a sly look he nodded.
Part 7
They were pulling up into a driveway where Gina was, it was late now so Timmy asked to use Justin’s cell phone to call his mom and let her know he was okay after that they snuck up to the window and saw a tall man sitting down watching TV. “That’s him! That’s the man that was at the hospital talking to Aunt Gina the night my dad died.” Timmy screamed. “Wow now lil man don’t be screaming, they’ll hear us shit. What do you mean? That’s why you wanted to follow her?” Justin was confused as was Cory. “It’s a long story, I can’t explain it right now, but lets just say that I have an idea of how he died, and it wasn’t no accident.” With serious looks on all three of their faces they kept watching as Gina sat down next to the man. “John, it’s been a year now and no one suspects a thing. I think we’re in the clearing, don’t you think we can tell my sister about you now?” John looked at her like she was nuts. “Are you insane? You know about my past, how I’ve been in and out of prison, I can’t be seen anywhere near her or Timmy.” He snapped. “Don’t you think you’re a little paranoid?” He stood up and looked Gina right in the eyes, “Paranoid or not, I am not going to let you get us caught. If anyone figures out that you and me drugged him then we’ll both go to prison. It’ll be my third strike, not only that but I could be convicted of murder. Well I’m not going to go back there again, so I suggest you stop with all of the ‘let’s tell my sister’ shit.” Gina had never seen John like this before this was new to her. She didn’t know what to say, her eyes were wide and she was in complete shock. “Okay, okay John we won’t introduce you to them yet, we can wait a little while if you want. But… I have to be going now I’ll, I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” At that she kissed him goodbye and walked towards the door. “Eh, we gotta get out of here, hurry get inside the car.” Justin, Cory and Timmy hopped in the car and took off.
Part 8
Timmy was just getting out of school as Justin drove up to the schoolyard to pick up Cory. “Hey Timmy, come here man. I wanna talk to you for a minute.” Running up to the car he said, “What’s up Justin?” “Nothing much kid, just picking up Cory. You want to go snooping around your Aunts place?” “What do you mean, snooping around her place? If you wouldn’t mind I would like to follow her around, I got some equipment now to record her and John, the next time she visits him.” Cory had just walked out of the school door as Justin agreed to take Timmy on another ride to follow Gina. “Hey bro, hey Timmy. What are you guys doing?” “Nothing Core, get in the car, we got some business to attend to, but yo Timmy, call up your mom let her know that you’re gonna be late. I got an idea on how to get your Aunt to confess.” They started to drive off to Justin’s place. “Mom, mom, no mom listen. I’m spending the weekend over at Cory’s house. I’ll be okay don’t worry. Thing’s will get better real soon, I promise… Yeah okay… I love you too, bye. Damn, she just won’t shut up.” “Aha, man she’s your mom, what do you expect? You’re still her little baby boy man. Besides you’re only what, about to be 11? That’s young kid.” Justin was telling Timmy. “Man I don’t care, what’s your idea?” “Aight see, I got some wires and mics and stuff that we can use to sneak into John’s house and set up to record them talking. I also got some video camera’s but we gotta do it tonight while their gone. Didn’t you say that your Aunt & John were going on a date tonight?” “Yeah, yeah they are.” “Okay then, we’ll do it tonight… Johnny Boy aint the only one who’s got tricks up his sleeve, good ol’ Justin does too.”
Part 9
Gina and John had just pulled out of the driveway to go eat dinner, they won’t be back for hours. “Eh, Timmy, Cory get over here. Be quiet though don’t let no one see you.” As they were sneaking up to the front door, Justin was checking all of the locks. Of course everything was locked. “Damn, I’m gonna have to pick the lock, y’all keep an eye out for anyone, don’t let them see me. I’ma pro at this so it won’t take long.” He said in a cocky voice. “Aight, there done, come on get inside slow-pokes. Okay Cory, you’re good with cameras and hiding shit, go hide these cameras around the house. Especially in the living-room. Timmy, are you good with mics?” “Yeah” “Good, hook these microphones up and place them around the house. I’m gonna snoop around and see what I find.” Timmy was amazed by how much Justin seemed like his dad, such a leader and resembled him in the face a little. He didn’t notice it until just then. Justin walked into the kitchen snooping around the drawers and cabinets. He was feeling a little hungry so he figured he’d eat a little something. When he opened the fridge all he found was water and beer. “Shit, no wonder they went out to eat.” After he was finished looking around the kitchen and the living-room he went to check out the bedrooms. But all he found was the average stuff, condoms, magazines, porn, clothes lying around and pictures. “What a pig.” He then went to the master bathroom and looked in the medicine cabinet. “Well, well, well what do we have here?” Picking up a bottle of medicine named ‘Hydrocodone’ he began to count the pills. There were suppose to be 30 tablets but 4 were missing. “Yo Timmy, come here.” As Timmy entered the room Justin asked, “Didn’t you say the coroner said your dad had four pills in his system that might have been the cause of his death because he was allergic to them?” Looking confused Timmy replied, “Yeah I think so, why?” “You might want to count these.”
Part 10
They saw lights pulling into the driveway and hurried to the backdoor. “Don’t forget the bottle of pills!” Justin screamed. “Damn, we made it out of there just in time, come on, be quiet don’t walk so loud Cory!” As they got into the car and drove back to Justin’s house they noticed a loud boom. “What was that?” They all said. “Well, it don’t matter. We’ll come back tomorrow night for the cameras and mics.” Justin told them. “Wait, that sounded like a gunshot though, didn’t it?” Timmy asked. “Well, well Justin would have known if it was a gunshot.” Cory said in a scared tone. “Now wait a minute, don’t go jumping to conclusions, it might have just been a car wreck. You can’t just make up assumptions like that.” Trying to get them to calm down he then asked them if they wanted to go out and eat pizza. They gladly screamed yes. The next night came and they found that Gina’s car was gone but John’s was still there in the driveway. ‘That’s odd.’ They were all thinking as they walked up to the window to peak in. Cory screamed as he saw John’s body lying on the floor with blood all around him. “What happened? We have to call 911!” Cory yelled. “Timmy, go to my car and get my cell phone for me. NOW!” Justin demanded Timmy. “Operator get me the police, yeah it’s an emergency what the hell do you think? God damn people are dumb now a days.” “Sir, what seems to be the problem?” A man had just picked up the phone. “Well see me, my little brother and his friend… Well nevermind that, just get over here to 77009 Lacewing Road. There’s a man bleeding inside of his home, I think he’s dead.” Justin seemed so calm, Timmy didn’t know how but he was. It seems as if John’s body bleeding like that didn’t even faze him.
Part 11
As the police drove up with an ambulance a detective came to talk to Justin while two others were talking to Cory and Timmy. “Son, what happened?” Detective Roberts asked Justin. “Well see, my brother and me have been doing Timmy a favor following his Aunt around because he had suspicions that maybe she had something to do with his father death. So we came over here last night, and planted some video cameras and microphones around the house. We also found some pills that were the same one’s that Mike, that’s Timmy’s dad. Had taken or supposable taken the night he died, and there were 4 missing, well Mike had 4 of the pills in his system when he died. And Timmy that night in the hospital saw this man, John talking to a woman about pills and if the guy was dead. Well Timmy finally put the pieces together and came to me for help. So I helped him, we were suppose to come here tonight and get the equipment but found John’s body. We heard gunshots last night after Gina and John came home but we didn’t think anything of it. I thought it may have been a car crash… Apparently I was wrong.” Justin felt so much better after letting all of that off of his chest. “Wow, we might have to take this downtown, you and your two friends go get all the microphones and cameras around the house. Detective Lee, watch them make sure they don’t touch anything but cameras and microphones.”
Part 12
As they gathered all of their equipment and gave it to the Detectives to put into evidence Detective Roberts took them into a room and tried to get the story straight. He had another Detective call Mrs. Harper so she could be there with her son. “Now you’re telling me that your Aunt, Gina was going out with this man, John? And last year she and he were seen by you at the hospital the night your dad died? And the pills that y’all found in John’s house are the same one’s that were in your father’s system?” Roberts asked. “Yes sir.” Timmy said, “But, I just figured it out a few weeks ago, Justin and Cory were helping me out.” A detective just interrupted and whispered to Roberts that they found something on one of the cameras, and heard a conversation on one of the mics. “I’ll be right back, y’all stay put.” As Detective Roberts walked into the next room they had a video playing of Gina and John talking. “You cannot do this to me John, you won’t go to the cops. I’ll make sure of that.” She pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot him, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you Gina, you’ll leave all kinds of evidence. Don’t do it.” He was trying to get her to put the gun down, but she wouldn’t. “No John, I can’t trust you anymore, it has to be this way.” BANG. John fell to the floor as Gina ran out the front door. “So mystery solved.” Roberts said.
Part 13
The next morning Roberts and the other detectives went to Gina’s house. “Gina, it’s the police, open up or we’re busting the door down!” She opened the door and acted like she didn’t know what was going on. “What happened? Oh my God is it my sister or Timmy? Oh tell me they’re okay!” “Ma’am they’re just fine, it’s you that you should be concerned about.” Roberts said. In a cocky voice she replied, “And how so?” “We have proof that you planned your brother-n-law’s murder and killed Jonathan A. Berns the night before last.” Yet again acting like she had no idea what was going on told Detective Roberts, “Well I have no idea what you’re talking about. You mean you found John dead?” “Ma’am please, enough small talk we already have the evidence, now please come with us, don’t make this hard on yourself. We have videos and recordings of you talking to John about the murder you two committed, and a video footage of you shooting Mr. Berns.” She at that moment demanded a lawyer and denied all statements that she was charged with.
Part 14 (The Ending)
“See mom I told you it would all be over soon.” Timmy said as he sipped on some cola. “Timmy, how’d you know?” She asked, amazed at how her son who was now only 11 years old could figure something so big out. “It wasn’t easy mom, but don’t worry about how we did it, just be happy that dad’s murderer even though she was your sister is put away. Now maybe he can rest in peace, and we can sleep at night. That’s the only thing that matters.” “So young yet so bright.” Justin said as he walked in the door. “Hi Justin, you know I want to thank you and Cory for helping Timmy out with all of this, it means a lot.” “Don’t worry about it Mrs. Harper, it was our pleasure, Timmy’s got a good head on his shoulders, cocky yet smart… That’s all a man needs aha.” Justin, Cory, Timmy and Mrs. Harper sat down at the dinner table, eating and laughing as if everything that had happened hadn’t happened. It was as if they were all finally happy and felt complete once again. They weren’t just neighbors in the same small town anymore, no now they were family.
