Chapter 1. Mallon

The sky was dyed deep shades of purple and red, as the sun slowly decsended behind the seemingly endless mountains. A stream trickled as the breeze gently carried the scent of a nearby blossoming apple tree over the forbidding plains. Galzra and Iren thought this a perfect night to eat outside. Their meal consisted of beef roast, mashed potatoes, and peas. After they finished supper, and did the dishes they sparred for a while. The sound of swordplay echoed through the mountains, disturbing the silence. Galzra was old and wise, but his son, Iren, was young and strong. He was but fifteen and already skilled in archery and swordplay. It all began seven years ago, when Iren was only eight. An unpleasent man seeking vengeance came across an egg and a sword. This man's name was Mallon, his new sword was Alberich, and the egg was black. Upon touching the egg (which until this time he had regarded as an odd stone) he gained a black teardrop on his left palm. The "stone" shattered into hundreds of tiny shards, leaving behind it a shimmering black dragon, no longer than his arm, humming deep in it's belly. Mallon was shocked by what he saw.

"On my left hand, I now bear the shining palm, symbol of the anceint riders, in my right the rider's blade Alberich, and now a dragon-" the black dragon cut him off

"- who is nameless" finished the dragon in a suprisingly deep tone.

Mallon cocked his head, then realized that the dragon was speaking inside his mind. He smiled, then began to search for a name. Many came to mind, but only few struck interest, and then finnaly it dawned on him.

"Are you a he or a she?" he asked his dragon.

"I am a male he replied" seemingly flowing with pride.

" Ah, well that explains it" then he went back to his thoughts.

Suddenly as if hit by a stone, he came across a name to his satisfaction.He looked at his dragon, "Are you Aubrey"

The dragon flooded Mallon with emotions of happiness. 

And so Aubrey and Mallon began their training
