[[Sorry about the time interval.  I lacked inspiration and time. Haha.  Here's Chapter 7]]

Chapter 7

Carla moved a little bit closer, and Brett chuckled at her timidness.

"First off, I don't hate you," he stated, smiling at the expression on her face.  "I'm simply protecting you."

"FROM WHAT?" Carla screamed, a bit louder than expected. 

Brett just smirked and retored, "I expected that.  I can't tell you. Now is not the time."

"Okay. Well, aside from the protection thing, I'm sure there's something else that caused you to avoid me."

Brett pondered a minute. He then replied, "You're beautiful.  And way to tempting.  I was avoiding you so I wouldn't hurt you."

"Hurt me?" she questioned.  "Tempting? I'm really confused here."

"Like I said, now is not the time.  You shouldn't trust me. But if you do, you'll find out soon enough."

And with that he was gone.

"What is going on here?" she thought.

The bell rang and Carla made her way to the buses.  She took her usual seat, but didn't say much.

"You okay?" Harrison asked, with true worry in his eyes.

Carla nodded and said, "I got some things to think about for school. Mind if I put my headphones on?"

"Not at all," he smiled, and let her be.

"Could I be falling for Brett. He's so mysterious... That attracts me. Not to mention, he's not bad looking either.  Gah, his hair is amazing.  And that smile."

"I can't believe myself," Brett said aloud.  "I can't allow myself to get close to her, it's just too dangerous.  But she's so tempting, and her scent. Oh god! That aroma is enough to make anybody go wild.  I do love the earthy scents."

Just then his sister, Aribella, walked in his room.

"Knock much?" he retorted.

"What girl is bothering you so much?" she said without missing a beat.

"God damn mind powers.."

"I heard that," Aribella replied in a sing-song voice.

Brett sighed. 

"Her name is Carla. She's in all of my classes, showed me around today, and smells absolutely wonderful."

He began to describe her to Aribella, when sudenly he grimaced.

"I'll be right back."

And with that, he sped off through the forest.

Carla walked onto her porch and saw Brett sitting there.

"How...Where... Huh?"

"As soon as you start forming complete sentences, we NEED to talk," he replied angrily, not making eye contact.

"Why are you here? How did you get here? Why do you know where I live?"

"There we go," he smiled. "Now, stay away from Harrison, he's no good."

"What, why?" she questioned.

"Put it this way.  I have an extremely developed mind. Not as in intelligence, so quit your scoffing.  I can hear things that people don't actually say.."

"Mind reading?" Carla interupted.

Brett growled slightly, but continued, "Yes. Now, I was talking to my sister about 3 minutes ago, when I heard some thoughts.  And trust me. Or don't. But believe me at least... If you heard what I heard, you wouldn't think he's so amazing."
