I turned over in my bed. The fleas were biting again. It was horrible. Just last year, 2009, we were sleeping in silken sheets. That was after the start of the second Great Depression. I carefully got up out of tweed blanket my brother and I were sharing. My eyes ajusted to the little light of the flame on the oil candle. I avoided the creaking step and walked dwn the slim hall.

Then, I heard something. It was the like the buzzing of an annoying wasp. It got louder. It sounded like a bazooka in the movies. A BOMB! I regonized the sound. A flash of white went by my eyes. After my mind regestered I realized  that my mother was toward that way. The flames were still high, but I loped to the blackened room. It was trashed. Flesh everywhere. My mother  was curled up in a corner, I was watching her die. I ran to  her and she asked me if I was alright.

"Yes. No. I am. So is....", I started to choke on my tears.

She died, right there. Not before she could tell me about my father though. I vowed I would find him and keep my mother alive in some way......sprit now.
