Eluding Danger (Chapter 11)

Drama Created on 3-16-08 Views(59) Story Rating G

When I spotted the huge, silver knife, I immediately ran to the opposite side of the small, cargo-hold-like room. I snatched it up and examined it closely. It was a good 7 to 10 inches long, and it shined as I twirled it in my hands, telling me that it must have been at least semi-new. The knife's handle was made of leather, and had a small amount of what looked like rabbit fur at the top, so it must have been very expensive. But wait! I thought to myself. This looks like a very expensive knife, so why would my kidnappers just leave it laying around? I pondered this thought for a few minutes, but the only reasonable idea that I could come up with was that they were extremely stupid people. Knowing that I was wasting time thinking of things like that, I picked up the knife and ran to the steel door that was between me and my escape. I pulled on the handle, but the heavy door wouldn't budge.

"Oh, dear lord!" I said in frustration. I gave the door another hard tug but it refused to open. "Please, just open already!" I shouted, beginning to panic. How could I get out of the room and escape if the door was stuck, or worse, locked? I began to search the room to find an object to help me with the door, but I failed to find anything. I sat down and sighed.

"Why me?" I asked myself. "What makes me sooo special that the FBI had to come and take me? Why do these..t.hese...murderers want me?" I was starting to have a breakdown, which I couldn't afford to have in my situation.  Suddenly, there was a loud knock on my door.

"Hey you," a strange voice said, "quiet down in there, will ya? We're trying to get some shut-eye."

When the man said this, I began to get an idea. If these people were as stupid as they seemed to be. maybe, justr maybe, I could escape. I heard the man's footsteps begin to fade down the hall.

"Wait!" I cried out.

"What now?" the voice said from the other side of the door.

"Can you open the door?" I asked hopefully.

"Now, why would I do that?" the manly voice asked.

"Well, I can't sleep at night with my door closed," I said, beginning to put my plan into action. "And I'm sure that you don't want to try to sleep with me wailing like a baby..." I finished off confidently.

"Well, no, I don't..." the voice said thoughtfully. "Okay, I'll open the door for you, but you'd better not try any funny business, little lady," the voice said as my door opened. Behind it stood a tall man with a very sleepy look on his face.

"I won't," I replied sweetly, though it didn't sound very convincing, as the man's appearance gave me a bit of a fright. The tall, scary man didn't seem to notice, though.

"Good," he said, walking back down the hallway. I climbed under the covers of the army bunk that was in my room, the knife close at my side. I waited until I heard snoring from the room the man had walked into before I jumped up. I stepped into the hallway, casting a few fleeting glances around before I scurried into the hallway as quietly as I could. It was too dark to see anything in the hallway, and I tried not to stab myself with the long knife. I walked down the hallway and around a bend, and I found myself in a surprisingly large room. It's walls were covered in radars and flashing lights, and at the front of the room sat our plane'ss driver. I slowly made my way up to him. I stood there for about two minutes, but he didn't seem to notice me. With a heart full of an odd sense of sadness, I raised the knife high abouve my head and swung down with an immense force. The knife hit it's target. I began to cry as I felt the man's blood form a small pool around my feet. I was sobbing uncontrollably, and extremely loudly. Suddenly, a crashin the room beside of me stopped my crying, but filled me with a fear that I had never before experienced. I stood behind the plane's dead captain, frozen in fear, as two large men came running out of the room.

When they saw their captain, they froze in shock, just as I had frozen in fear. They continued to stand there, but the look on their faces was not what I had expected. Their faces were not full of rage with me, but they were contorted in fear.

"We're going to die," one of the men uttered. The other man nodded in agreement, then looked to me.

"Do you have any idea of what yoiu've done?" the man screamed.

"Yes, I do!" I managed to scream back. "I've just killed your captain!"

"Yes," the first man said, "and you've just killed the only person aboard who knows how to fly a plane!" As he said this, the plane began to dip in the sky. A button that said WARNING began to flash, and we began to drop out of the sky at a tremendous rate.

"Oh my god!" I screamed, reaching for the steering wheel-like controlling device. I pulled up on the sticks, but it didn't help much; we did a flip in mid-air and continued to fall, only now we were upside down. I sat on the floor and began to sob. The men joined me, but we didn't cry for long. We hit the ground hard, and I was slammed against the wall. I passed out immediately, and sank once again into an antagonizingly painful darkness.....
