Eluding Danger (Chapter 9)

"Pease, oh please, just tell me!" I said in anticipation.

"Ok then, fine," Alyce said. "You mission is very dangerous, and unusuall at that. First off, we're going to ship you down to Brazil. When there your mission will be to find the most important thing that our Bureau has ever, and I mean ever, possessed: the Code Book."

"The Code Book?" I repeated, my mouth hanging open. "You mean that's it?"

"What do you mean?" Alyce said, looking a little hurt.

"I've been snatched away from the life I could have had to find a crappy Code Book?" I said. I was very disappointed.

"Well, what were you expecting?" Alyce said, slightly annoyed.

"I was expecting to have to go on a huge adventure that was full of danger and excitement!" I yelled, suddenly very agitated.

"Well, guess what dear?" Alyce said in an angry tone. "This isn't a little story, this is real life, and not everything is as it seems!"

"Well I think that this is all really stupid!" I shouted. I was in a particularly badd mood, and this news wasn't helping it.

"Elizabeth, it may sound boring but trust me it won't be!" Dan said in an attempt to reassure me. "You have to look outside of the box."

"Look outside of the box?" I repeated. "What the heck does that mean?"

"You have to think, Elizabeth." Dan replied. "We told you that it was the most important thing we've ever possessed, so why wouldn't it be exciting?"

"Well," I retorted, "what happens when I find it?"

"You're still not thinking logically!" Alyce said quickly. "It won't be that easy! Do you think it's lost because someone left it laying around or something dumb like that?"

"Well," I said, losing confidence in my side of the arguement, "that's kinda what I thought..."

"Okay, do you want us to just explain this all to you?" William said unexpectedly.

I thought for a moment. "Yes, please," I replied.

"Okay then!" he said. "You see, the year you were born, someone broke into the room that the Code Book was kept in. THey stole it, of course, and we chased them for days. We followed them into the hospital, and we continued to chase them until we were in your room. We attempted to grab them, but they jumped out of the window. You saw all of this, and apparently it had an effect on you; you became super-intelligent."

"But how is that possible?" I asked.

"The men left their imprint on you emotionally, instead of scarring you for life, you learned from what they were saying. Basicly, you've been part of the FBI, or at least known about it, your whole lifetime."

"Why are you telling me this?" I asked. I wanted to hear about what my mission was about, not why I was the 'Chosen One'!

"It helps you understand!" William said. "Now please, let me continue. Well, after the men jumped through the window, they were out of reach. Just recently, we got word that they were found dead, and they'd left us a little something."

"What did they leave you, of all people?" I asked, astonished.

"They'd left us a letter. It read:

Dear FBI, Mr. Crist in particular,

We have commited suicide. We were lucky to live out our pitiful lives for so long, but we found that it was time for the end. We felt that, in spite of the troubles you gave us, we should give you something helpful: attached to this note you will find a map- use it wisely, and the object will be harder to retrieve than it seems.

Sincerely, Robert and Jeremiah Frostick, two theifs

As he recited the message, I finally began to understand why the mission would be so hard. I would have to find the object which they believed to be the code book and sneak it back into the U.S., all the while avoiding the obstacles that got in my way.

"I'm starting to get it now!" I said, overjoyed.

"Well, don't get too excited," William said. " Right now you need to pack your bags; your flight to Brazil leaves at 4:00 A.M."

Okay, I know it wasn't my best, but I was kinda stuck and this was the only thing I could think of. Please rate and I'd still love to get any advice and I appriciate all comments, good or bad, as long as you only state your opinion! =]
