Jaycee Ch.1

Other Created on 6-12-08 Views(167) Story Rating G

“Jaycee!” someone yelled from behind me. I really did not want to talk to any one after the misery I had just suffered. I kept walking. The person ran up beside me and poked my shoulder. I turned.

It was Kellie Hoggle, aka the biggest nerd in school. She smiled at me.

“Jaycee, I just wanted to thank you for helping me with that Physics problem this morning.” She said pushing her thick glasses up on her face.

“It was no problem, Kellie. I’m good at stuff like that.” I assured her.

“I noticed you were having problems in our English class last year. I mean like you could help me out in Physics and I could help you with your English. Would you agree to that?” she asked sweetly.

“Yeah, sure.” I would do anything for help in English, especially since I did not know if high school English class was harder than middle school.

This first day of 9th grade seemed to get better. Kellie opened the door to Mrs. Applegate’s class. It was a huge room decorated with colorful posters.

“Open the door to your imagination: READ!”

“Try, try, and if that fails try again!”

“Life’s A Stage, the world is watching, so get your act together!”

They just jumped off the wall at me. I hadn’t sat down with a book in a long time and I’m sure that was about to come back and haunt me this semester.

I sat next to Kellie and Mrs. Applegate came in with a red book in her hand.

“I’m cutting to the chase class. We have one semester to learn proper grammar and to read this play by the greatest playwright of all time: William Shakespeare. I want you all to be able to quote it from front to back.

Well, at least your respected part because we will be putting on the play in front of the whole school.” She informed us. She held up the book. “From today on, you will eat, breathe, and sleep Romeo and Juliet.

The entire class groaned. That play was so cliché!

“I love your enthusiasm! Let’s begin with Act 1: Scene 1.” She told us. She droned on and on until the lunch bell. We all made a break for the door as fast as we could.

Kellie walked beside me.

“Can you believe it? We get to put on Romeo and Juliet!” she said happily. “What part do you want, Jaycee?” she questioned me.

“I don’t know. I’ve never read it.” I told her.

“You’ve never read it?” she gasped. “I could quote it by age eight!” she said to me flabbergasted.

“I was a tom boy. I was playing with the boys in the mud at age eight.” I told her. I grinned at the memory.

The lunchroom was really big. It had a regular food line, salad bar, junk food line, and dessert bar. Kellie went to the salad line but I followed a guy with long blonde hair to the junk food line.

There was pizza, cheeseburgers, tacos, hotdogs, French fries, onion rings, and other things that were bound to make you fat. I grabbed a tray and started to get a slice of pizza when the dude in front of me said something.

“Jaycee?” I looked up. It was my old friend, Leo.

“Leo? What are you doing back at Greensville, I thought you moved overseas with your Dad?” I asked.

“Yeah, well, I’m back!” he smiled. His blue eyes sparkled. Leo always had had a male model look and it made girls swoon. But I wasn’t a normal girl. As we filled our trays we conversed.

“How was Japan?” I questioned.

“It was awesome! I mean the schools are nothing like here. There are ten times more students and the classes are ten times harder. And the food here isn’t as weird. They have fried bugs in the snack machines.” He said looking disgusted.

“Ew.” I said making a face.

“So how has Greensville been?” he inquired.

“It’s the same as ever. Schools evil, summers good, and the preps are the same year round.”

“Is Madison still around?” he eyed.

“Yep, and still throwing her exclusive parties.” I said.

“And still a bitch?”

“Yes, bigger than before.” I said. Leo laughed at my seriousness causing me to chuckle as well.

“So, what classes are you taking?” he wondered as we paid for our lunch.

“Physical Science, English 9, Algebra 1, and Welding.” I said mumbling the last class.

“Did you say Welding?” he asked shocked.

“Yeah, I find it interesting.” I lied to him. Leo would be so ma if he knew it was a dare.

“Well, do what you like no matter what others say. Be an individual!” he advised me.

Kellie ran over to us and we sat down together.

“How can you eat that?” she asked me looking at my pizza.

“What do you mean? It’s pizza. Every red blooded teenager eats pizza.” I said taking a bite.

“Do you know a piggy died just so you could eat that?” she questioned me.

“Yes, and I thank him very much. If he can hear me, he is very delicious, and I thank you for this meal.” I said sarcastically. Leo chortled.

“I can’t sit here and watch you eat flesh.” She said getting up. She took her salad and walked over to a table full of her people; the health nuts.

Something hit me in the head and I looked up. Leo was laughing hard. I picked dup the French fry that had just hit me and I threw it back. We kidded like this for the entire lunch period.

The bell rang and I got up to take my tray but Leo stopped me at the trash cans. He wrote something on my hand with a black pen and walked away. I looked down.

Call me and we can go out sometime!         Leo: 555-2452

I smiled and went back to class.
