            Katarina Cross threw the rum bottle against the stone wall and cursed.

            “You had better be right, Crocker!” she yelled at the older man. “If you remember our last time in port we hid underneath the dock and no one ever came!”

            “Aye, Captain! Tis true! The town has called the Royal Guard to find the Pirate Princess!” Crocker said scared of what Captain Cross would say next.

            “If they are looking for the Pirate Princess then let them look no further! Tell the men to charge the town!” she smiled wildly. Crocker ran off towards the ship at once. Katarina picked up her hat off a nearby post and positioned it on her head firmly.

            “Stupid English perros.” She muttered to herself. She dusted her purple jacket off and unsheathed her sword. The handle had roses wrapped around it beautifully. It had a solid red jewel embedded in the blade. It had once been white but even a fool would know why it had changed colors.

            “My friend, help me once again.” She said to it. Then she heard the shouts of the guards. She laughed. “Come get me you land lubbers!” They rounded the corner to where the wall was. It was on a very narrow dock and she had no where to go but the way they were approaching from.

            “Katarina Cross, by the authorization of the Queen, I place you under arrest.” One of the guards told her.

            “Is that so? You see, I was under the impression that she loved me. I mean who doesn’t love Captain Cross? I’m the female Robin Hood! You know, steal from the rich, give to the poor? Now we can’t go killing a highly regarded member of society, now can we?”

            “Don’t let her word play fool you, men. She is a menace.” Another guard mumbled.

            “Word play? Me? And where do you get that notion?” she questioned.

            The guard who had insulted her walked slowly towards her.

            “There is an easy way out of this Cross, come with us and be tried, or die here.” He said drawing his sword.

            She lunged forward and stabbed him in the gut.

            “Now he wasn’t a very quick one was he?” she smirked. The second guard ran to her in rage of the death of his friend. They clashed swords. It lasted only a few seconds as one wrong move and he stumbled causing himself to be stabbed in the heart.

            She looked to the last guard who blocked her exit. He was young and his extreme fear was told by his face.

            He drew his sword nervously as she approached.

            “Hmmm…this seems familiar. It seems your friend mentioned an easy way out. You have two options. You can die or you can jump in that water and save yourself. When your commanding officer asks why you didn’t catch the feared Captain Cross you can say you fell during a lighting round of dueling. Which do you pick?” she eyed.

            In an instant the young man hurled himself over in to the port water. “Their not all that stupid.” She said to herself. Running up the stairs to town Katarina felt the sea breeze in her hair. She hated being here on land. She longed to be on her ship The Thorncrest. But here she was fighting on dirt.

Crocker came to her out of no where.

“Status report, Mr. Crocker!” she demanded.

“The last of the guard are down by the tavern. Our men have got this battle won.” He smiled a gap toothed grin.

“So shall you accompany me back to The Thorncrest, Mr. Crocker?” Captain Cross asked.

“Aye, Captain.” He said.

As they walked to their ship, Katarina noticed a look in Crocker’s eyes.

“What is troubling my first mate?” she questioned.

“Nothing, Captain.” He said trying to look stern.

“Mr. Crocker, you know as my friend you can tell me anything.” She assured him.

“It’s nothing, Captain, I’m fine.” He hid.

“And as your Captain I can command you to tell me anything.” She said raising her voice.

“Oh, well, Captain, you see, it’s me and me wifes anniversary coming up in a few weeks and I told the missus I might be able to come see her if the job permits.” He blurted out.

“Mrs. Crocker was the woman that raised me to a teenager. I would feel horribly if you were not to keep that promise.” Katarina enlightened him. “We are sailing to Lemastard next then.” She said.

“Oh, really, Captain Cross? You are the best! I always knew you’d be just like your father. I know you’ve heard it a thousand times but he was the best pirate to ever sail this earth.” He said giddy with himself.

The sun was setting in the background and Captain Cross stood in the crows nest of the Thorncrest waiting for her men to come back.

“The 6,043^rd sunset.” She said where only she and the air could hear.
