Romance Created on 6-21-09 Views(71) Story Rating PG13

                                                  Chapter Four:

                                               Explain it to me

I walked down the path leading to the cab. I couldn’t believe that Dave had awakened so early in the morning to plan a romantic date. I opened the door and told the taxi cab my address before he drove off. I mean what was the whole purpose of me waiting for the package it’s not like her behind was doing anything important. I’m not her maid she needs to get off her ass and do thing for herself sometime. I can’t wait for this year to be over.

Common sense should have told her ass to get the package sent to her job, since she spends most of her time there anyway. I dug into my bag and pulled out my cell and called Miyrah to see if Connor had called her. Since when do you job become more important than your own child now that’s some bull?

Miyrah answer on the first ring that’s how I knew that something good had happened, because something good always happens when she answers on the first ring.

“Hey girl”

“Hey Daisy”

“Come down the street in like five minutes I need to tell you something.”
“I’m kind of busy”

“Kind of busy doing what Miyrah all you really do is study?”

“Well you remember that boy Connor who you gave my number too; well he’s over here right now.”

“For real, damn I just gave him your number yesterday.”

“Yeah, well I just invited him today.”

“So you’re not going to come down the street, because the cab just pulled up in front of my house?”

I went thru my pocketbook until I had grasp of my wallet I pulled a ten and two one dollar bills out of the compartment reserved for it and handed it to the cab driver.

“Just come down the street Daisy.”

I opened the door and put my wallet back in my pocketbook before leaving out of the cab. I walked up the path leading to my front door with both bags in my left hand and replied “I can’t I have to wait for a package for my mother.”

“Well we can chill on my porch.”

“Come on now Miyrah, just come down the street.”

“I can’t leave him that would be rude.”

“So just bring him with you.”

Miyrah was having a side conversation with Connor “Do you want to go down the street to Daisy’s house with me for a minute?”

“Sure why not.”

“Daisy we’re on our way.”

I hit end on the phone and placed it into my pocketbook. I grabbed around in my bag until I found my keys before unlocking the door and entering the house. I sat both the bag and my pocketbook on the side of the living room sofa, before heading down the hall to the downstairs bathroom. I looked at my reflection in the mirror, before flipping my hair from in front of my eye behind my ear. I walked over to the entrance of the bathroom and looked at the room next door. It was the same room that I walk in on my father and the mayor’s wife having sex in the day before. The door bell rang.

I hit my dress a couple of times to make sure I had most of the dirt off of it. I walked over to the front door and opened the door. When I opened it I noticed how Miyrah and Connor actually make a cute couple.

“Hey Ishmael”

“What’s up Connor?”

“Hey Daisy”

“Hey Miyrah”

I moved aside and let them in before walking past them and heading to the kitchen. I was so thirsty since it was so fiery hot outside today. I looked around the refrigerator until I found a bottle of water. I grabbed it; closed the refrigerator and leaned against the sink and gulped it down. I looked at them looking at each other and it damn there made me sick; I don’t know why though. I walked back over to the refrigerator and put the empty bottle back in there.

“Now why would you do that Daisy?” Miyrah asked

“Because I wanted too” I replied

“What the hell is your problem?” she asked.

I wasn’t even going to dignify that with an answer. I walked over to the glass dining room table and sat down, they followed behind me. I sat the silently before blurting out “My dads having and affair with the mayor’s wife” Connor and Miyrah look at each other before looking at me. I sat there with so many thoughts running through my mind.

“Are you serious, your dad wouldn’t do that to your mom?” Miyrah replied

“That’s the funny part, because my mother is having an affair with the mayor too.”

Connor asked “Do they know about each other having an affair?”
I looked at him before replying “I think my dad found out that my mom was having an affair with the mayor; then decided to do the same thing to get back at her.”

The door bell rang.

I slid the chair back and stood up and headed out of the kitchen. I walked down the hall leading to the front door before opening it.

“Who the hell are you?”
“Is Mrs. Carrington home?”
“No, but what ever you came to give her you can give it to me since she made me come home and wait for it any way.”

“Okay, well you make sure you give her this, she’s been waiting for these.”

“And what exactly are these?”

“If she wants you to know right now she would tell you.”

He pulled a big-yellow folder out of his brief case and handed it to me. I put it under my arms and slammed the door dead in his face; being that he had a smart ass mouth. I pulled the envelope from under my arm and decided to open it since she made me come here just for a couple of sheets of papers. I pulled the paper out of the envelope and I couldn’t believe my eyes. They were divorce papers; I was so astonished that I dropped them all over the floor. The three sheet of paper separated.

I pick each sheet up one by one and headed back for the kitchen. I stop when I heard Connor and Miyrah talking and yes I was ease dropping.

“That is so wrong, what type of parent would do that to their child?” Miyrah asked

“I don’t know; I just think that it’s some kind of phase.” Connor replied

I walked into the kitchen with the papers sitting on top of the envelope. I walked over to the table and slammed the papers and the envelope down. “Some kind of phase huh?”  I sat back down in my chair; Connor looked at the paper before finally handing them to Miyrah so that she would understand what I had said that for. I looked at Connor then looked back at Miyrah who had just finished reading the first page of the papers. I started tapping my Left hand on the dining room table before realize that they would have clear view of my engagement ring.

I quickly slid my hand from on top of the table and placed them in the pockets that was on each side of the yellow sun dress “Maybe these are just in case” Miyrah explain. “Oh yeah then why does it already have my mother’s signature?” I exclaimed.

My father walked into the kitchen the messed up part about it is that I hadn’t even heard him come in. I grabbed all of the papers and slid underneath my dress.

     “What were those?” he asked

“A script that we’re working on for drama club.”

“I didn’t know that you write scripts now.”

“Well there are a lot of things you don’t know.” I said sarcastically

He looked a Miyrah then looked a Connor before asking “can I have a minute with my daughter?” I snarled up my nose up as I looked at them and shook my head and said “no you don’t have to go.” He looked at them with a blank- hard stare before saying “I’m not going to ask you again.”  Miyrah stood up followed by Connor. They decided to take the back exit since they were closer to it. Connor opened the door for Miyrah and said “See you later” before they both had exited the door.

My father sat in the chair across from me and looked at me with an angry expression plastered on his face; like I really cared. I looked at him dead and the eyes before saying “So why did you do it?” He sat there with that same blank stare in his eyes. I guess his was surprised, because he thought that I would bring it up. “It’s hard to explain” He replied “Well try explaining it to me then.” I replied. “Well it’s complicated” he replied “Well I have a way of uncomplicating things, try me.” I persistently insisted

He looked at me, but I knew that he couldn’t explain it to me; I mean no man really has an excuse when they cheat on their girlfriend on their wife. I mean what type of father would actually sit there and say absolutely nothing. I grabbed the envelope from on top of the table and then yank the papers from under my dress. I slid the chair back and stood up and headed out of the kitchen before he replied “She’s having an affair with the mayor.” I turned around as if I didn’t know that I was true. “You know dad, that might be true, but you need to know that two wrongs doesn’t make a right, it makes a left. All you’ll going to be doing is going in circles. I mean what type of bullshit family is this?” I said as I walked out of the kitchen angrily.

So my theory was right he only did what he did to get back at my mother, but in this case my mother and the mayor still doesn’t even know about it. I mean don’t get me wrong I’m not only mad at him I’m mad at both of them. At this moment they both had done something so incredibly stupid.  Why would he have sex with her in the house thinking that he wouldn’t get caught? I stop at the first stair before thinking “He did that intentionally, because he knew that mom was supposed to get off early today and usually I would be either with Miyrah or at Dave’s. Which mean that he actually planned it; How degusting.”

I walked over to the sofa and picked up my bags before heading up stair s to my bed room with the papers. I walked inside threw my bag on the floor, locked the door, laid the papers on the nightstand, before lying down. I looked up at the satin-smooth material hanging over my canapé bed. I closed my eyes for s brief moment before thinking about the good things happening in life; like the fact that in two month I’ll legally be an adult and the fact that I’m engaged to the love of my life. I opened my eyes when I realized that school was four days away.

I sat up and looked over at my closet. I had change my mind this Semester I would do something different for the first semester I will be Ishmael, because I don’t want to miss the homecoming game and because it would give me some time to think about whether marrying Dave the right thing for me to do. Not to mention we need another player on the team besides me anyway. I walked over to the closet and put all my outfit’s back on the hangers and took out more of Ishmael’s outfit before going back over to the bed and lying back down. I don’t know why I was so exhausted it seemed like I had just woke up and I was already tired again. I kicked my shoes off my feet curled up into a ball and drifted off.

The sound of my mother’s over baring voice had awakened me out of my recently set slumber. I sat up quickly; you know how you’re sleeping and you know you’re supposed to do something else so your not really relaxed enough to get eight hours of sleep, well that’s me at the moment. I stepped into my Tweety bird slippers and grabbed the papers from off of the night stand before unlocking the door and heading out of my room. I walked down the step slowly to avoid falling. I looked at the clock that was hanging on the living room wall over the erne filled with my grandmother’s ashes.

I had only been sleep for and half an hour. I walked into the kitchen where my mother was sitting at the table whispering on the phone talking to someone. I had already known who it was. I placed the papers behind my back and slowly walked over to her. She told the person who she was on the phone with that she would call them back. Please, if she wanted to be discreet she should have went into the bathroom with that shit.

         “Hey baby”

“Hey mama” I said with the slight southern accent that I have

         “Did you get my package?”

“Yes, do you want it now?” I said as I approached the table and sat down in a dining room chair.

“Why are you acting so weird right now Daisy?”

I slammed the papers down on the table in front of her and didn’t even answer her. She looked down at them before looking back up at me. She had an astonished look upon her face; the very same look that my father had on his. I looked at her waiting for her to explain, but when she didn’t I asked her “So what are those for?” She looked down then back up at me “Those are just in case” She said as her voice began to get shaky. “Just in case what?” I asked. “Just in case things don’t work out between your father and me.” Well at least she was woman enough to admit the obvious.

“Well the only reason you and dad won’t work is because your to damn busy sleeping with the mayor. She slapped me across my face. I looked at her and took it like a real woman, because I was so mad that barely felt it. Come on mama you didn’t think that dad and I knew, we’ve always known.” I stood up and walked away from the table and had her sitting there feeling, stupid and guilty.

“There’s nothing wrong with you and dads marriage that couldn’t be sorted out in marriage counseling; if you’re willing to try.” I walked out of the kitchen and heading back up stairs to my room.
