2: Trash Heap ã I left the building confused. I walked alone. It was cold out, but not so cold that it would snow… I would say it was, well, hoodie weather. The wind blew, causing some of the loose autumn leaves to fall off the tree above me and dance there way down around me. Usually something like that would make me feel happy, but this time. . . I just felt bitterer. “That’s all we are!” I thought to myself. “just leaves, used for our beauty, but soon we loose our lust and beauty and fall. Unknown, unloved, and uncared for… We get raked up, and crumbled to bits. . . No one wants us anymore.” My eyes were narrowed to the ground, staring at my feet as they each took a step. My eyes started to blur, and I soon realized that I was crying. I wiped each tear away with my sleeves to my Twin method shirt. Then suddenly, I heard a voice. “What’s wrong?” the voice was so familiar, I turned around to see it was Benji. I noticed he had fang piercing, on his bottom lip, and assumed he had them done at the piercing, tattoo shop down the road, and was walking his way back. “Nothing. . . “ I grumbled. my eyes wouldn’t make any contact toward him, just for the fear he’d keep asking questions. “There’s got to be something wrong if your crying.” I started to walk faster, he grabbed my shoulder, stopping me dead in my tracks. “C’mon, you can tell me.” I looked at him. I looked in his eyes, and something told me I could trust him. “ok.” I said with a pout, but an expression of relief. We sat down on a bench that sat outside a restaurant. “So, what happened?” he asked. He seemed very impatient, and didn’t want to miss what I had to say. Quite frankly, I found it to be very rude. “Well. . “ I began. I hesitated for a moment. “Robby. . . Raped me.” as I tried to say the words, they were covered up from all my crying. Benji looked at me in shock, and patted my back. “It’s ok.” he said over and over again trying to comfort me. “I’ll get things straightened out.” he said. “And I’ll show him a lesson.” I looked up at him, amazed, Was he honestly going to compete his leader? He looked down smiling, and shot a glance at me that made it seem we were talking telepathically, and it seemed to say, yes, I will. We both stood from the bench, simultaneously. I stared at him, then I just started to cry even more. I hugged him, baring my face into his shirt, so the world could not see who I was, who this child who had been crying was indeed a teenager, who had been a victim of some sort. Benji waited until I was done, and walked me home. We talked, and of course we changed the subject to something else. When I got to my doorstep, I looked back at him and waved my good byes. He just looked at me, giving me this weird head jester of goodbye. I opened my door and walked inside. It was dark now. “I Must have been gone pretty long.” I yawned. I waked around and turned on a few lamps. I was to tired to cook, or even do home work. Instead I went upstairs and got a nice hot bath, with in-scents burning on the sink. It was the first time I actually felt this relaxed. I woke up to a warm Saturday morning. I got out of bed, put some ripped jeans on, with a green and black tang top, I put my hair in a pony tail, and put a rainbow tie-dyed bandana on my head. I walked down stairs and out the door. I walked straight back to the old abandoned house that Robby and all of them were at. Why am I going back? I thought. I pondered on that question the whole time I walked, then an image of Benji popped in my mind. I smiled, Oh Benji, your so nice and kind. How can I ever repay you? I thought thinking about what he said yesterday. Hmmm. I wonder if he actually showed Robby a “lesson”? I giggled a little and found myself in front of the house. I skipped to the door, and slowly opened it. I walked in and ran to the basement door were Robby had brought me to meet all of my comrades. I walked quickly down the steps, and paused when I got to the bottom. My eyes, pin to the floor to see some blood. “Benji?!” I whispered. I looked around the room, it was empty. Where are they? Suddenly I heard speaking, it was coming from the cellar door, that led to a room I had never been in. I walked slowly over to the door. I could hear whimpering, and giggling behind it. My heart ached, I put my hand on the steel door hinge and opened it slowly. ãAs the door squeaked slowly, I could feel all the eyes in the room focusing there attention on the person opening, and disturbing them with an unwelcoming squeak. “Oh! How nice of you to join us, Venesa!” Robby said with a grin. He smiled and seemed so pleased, like he had won a battle. Did he think that he had control over me or something? Just because I came back? Oh well. My sour thoughts made me feel agitated to be in the same room with Robby. Wait, where’s Benji!? My mind went back to thinking. I looked at the room, I saw no blood. I saw only a girl sitting in a chair, and Robby right beside her. “Melissa, it was so nice of you to come, and I will think about it. I think you should go though.” he said with a nudge of his head towards me. She looked at him, and could understand, she got up, said good bye, and walked past me and up the steps. “Who is she?” I asked demanding. “Oh, she’s just an underground comrade.” he said like it was nothing new. Under ground comrade? I pondered. What in the world is that? Is it some other organization connected with us? After a while of thinking, my head started to hurt, so I switched my topics, by very of choice. “So why are you here?” Robby asked suspiciously. “I just wanted to see everybody, but I can see now that no one is here.” I giggled unsurely. “Yeah, nobody ever comes on Sundays, unless they have a question, or a problem.” ‘Oh then where would everyone be?” “Eh, probably at the mall causing a ruckus, or some other stuff, I really dun, no.” I sat and I thought for a bit while I looked at my hands in this awkward silence. “Well, I guess I better go. I’ll see you tomorrow?” “yeah. All right, c’ya.” He seemed bummed out, and it made me feel good inside. I took my leave and headed to the mall. I looked around and listened for any type of “ruckus”. I walked towards the arcade that was right next to Dicks Sporting Goods. I laughed when I looked in and saw them trying to play DDR (Dance, Dance, Revolution) Andrew, Mike, Mel’Rose, Becca, Lisa, Benji, and some other people I hadn’t met before. “No you got to step on that arrow!!” I could hear Becca yelling. “I’m trying! Just shut up! “ Lisa yelled. I walked on in, and stood behind Mike, I waited for one of them to notice me, and when Mike turned around, he let out a gasp of joy and yelled my name, and gave me a big, bad, bear hug. Everyone except Lisa, who was determined to defeat the game, walked over, talking, and yelling, and suggesting me playing that dumb game. “C’mon, you got to play!” Andrew begged. “No way! I’m not going on that thing, I’ll just embarrass myself.” I laughed. He grabbed my hand and pulled me up. Picked a song, and it was on. I looked confused at the screen. “You got to hit the arrows, c’mon hurry, I don’t want to lose the game because you don’t want to play.” he was playing the guilt card so that I would at least try. I started to move my feet., and tried to hit the arrows. Good, Good, Miss, Boo, Boo, Boo, Miss, Good. Though I was losing, I must say, I had a hell of a good time. When the game was over, I started to laugh. “That was pretty good for your first try. Though you did just make me blow 2 dollars for only one and a half a round of the game.” Andrew teased. “Yeah, well I’m sure you didn’t do any better your first time. You probably fell flat on your ass right when the arrows started coming up.” I also teased. “I didn’t fall my first time.” I could hear him mutter. I laughed went over and gave him a hug. “I’m just Kidding Andrew.” I reassured him. I was interrupted by a beeping noise coming from my pocket. I pulled out the annoyance of it’s source. It was my cell phones alarm. It was 10:30pm it was time that I should get on my way home so that I could get ready for school tomorrow. “I have to go guys, I’ll see you all tomorrow.” I said as I walked away from the arcade. I could hear the good byes behind me. When I got home, I looked in the drive way to see that my father and mother were home. I opened the door silently so I wouldn’t disturb them, and I closed it quietly too. I tip-toed up the steps, and peeked into there room. They were asleep. I sighed and made my way to the bathroom. I washed up, looked through some of the stuff I received form school, making sure that all my work was done, then turned on the TV to some anime, and fell asleep while watching Big O. Tomorrow… I’m sure it will be a great day… A great day indeed…. I thought to myself in my slumber. I slept peacefully, and calmly. ãI woke up that morning feeling reenergized, and ready to kick anyone’s ass who ruined this feeling. I walked down the steps, and found breakfast on the table. Breakfast? I questioned. My parents haven’t made breakfast for me since I was 8. I sat down at the table, and saw a stack of smiley pancakes, French toast sticks, and a blue berry muffin, along with orange juice. My stomach seemed unpleased when seeing the food, I’m guessing I’m just not into eating in the mornings anymore. I was happy though to see that my parents still knew I existed. I took the food, wrapped it up and put it in my lunchbox. I grabbed my book bag, and left the house, I walked to school, and noticed that I was 20 minutes early. I saw Robby and the gang sitting on the outside buildings steps. I was surprised, even if there was only 3 of them from the group there. “You guys go to this school?” I asked. “Yup!” Mel’Rose said, smiling. Robby looked at me. ”Hmm, didn’t expect you were in the same school as me” “Yeah, well I’m not that noticeable in the school. No one really knows who I am here.” I said looking down at the pavement. “AWWW! Well you have us now!” Becca reassured. I smiled and gave her a hug. Students started to show up, by buses, by cares, and by walking. Finally the doors were open, and we could go inside. I put my stuff in my locker and ran over to Becca, Mel’Rose, and Robby. We talked until the home room bell rang, I left them, I felt confident, and went to my home room, room 008. I sat down at a table by myself. I watched the other kids laugh, gossip, and talk with their friends. Some of them were trying to get there home work done before they had to leave for class, and some were just taking the time to ketch up on some sleep. Then I looked at my table. Three empty seats sat around me. I put my head down into my arms, and pretended to be asleep. The announcements came on, and it made it hard for me to listen to the others conversations. I tried to concentrate my mind on one group of people, and what they were saying,. I pierced my eyes up a little out of my arms to see there lip movements, so it would be easier for me to know what they were saying. Then I heard foot steps. They were coming towards me. I looked over to see who they belonged to, it was, it was, it was BECCA! When was she in my class. “Wow you’re right, you are unnoticeable in this school.” she laughed. She pulled out a chair and sat next to me. My head came up, as I stared at her in amazement. How come I never noticed her before?! “You know when you sit all alone, stay silent, and hide yourself, of course your going to be unnoticed. If you want to be noticed you have to join another persons table, talk a little bit, and don’t hide your face.” she said looking at me in concern. I was still in shock to know that she was in my class. I observe everything that goes on in here, and every one! How did I not notice her before. Maybe she is just like me.? I looked at her “If you know all this, how come your so unnoticeable?” I asked. “Because I don’t like to be noticed.” she said with a glair. She opened up one of her binders to pulling out a pen, then she took out last nights algebra homework. I watched as she jotted in random estimates for an answerer on each problem. “stop.” I said ”Just copy mine.” I pulled out my homework, and handed it to her. “Are you sure?” she asked “Yeah, but you have to do your homework that you receive tonight. “ I said. “Ok deal” She took my paper and began to copy. She looked confused. “Do you know how to do this stuff?” I asked her. She giggled slightly “Not really.” “I can teach you after school, it’s quite simple.” she nodded “Thanks, that would be great” The bell rang for us to go to our classes, she handed me my home work and said thank you. We rushed to our next class, even as we were rushing, I could see her tripping a few kids down the stairwell. I looked at her in shock on how she could do that. She just laughed, and kept going. Just before I entered my class, Robby walked by and said hi to me. I didn’t see Mel’Rose hovering around him anywhere. I sat in the back of the class and Becca decided to sit next to me. She kept making jokes on the teachers big bald spot on the back of his head. A few of her jokes I could not help but to laugh about. I saw a few of the kids look back at us with mad eyes of annoyance, and some were amused. Another kid Bill who sat right in front of me joined in on the joke making. The jokes were so funny I had to hide my face into the desk just to try to stay quiet. The bell rang and I noticed I didn’t pay attention at all on what we were learning, and the class only felt to be 10 minutes long. I found it quite amusing, but at the same time guilty. Maybe Mr.Alerton will re-teach it tomorrow like he usually does.
