CHAPTER 4
FLASHBACK- 12 Years of Age
"THERE IS NO WAY SPIDERMAN IS BETTER THAN THE HULK!"
"Okay Ms. Priss, let's do what Burger King says and have it your way!"
"Shut-up Logan! Just admit it!"
"NEVER!"
"What is your problem? Why can't you just admit to it already?"
"Tracey would you keep your voice down, I really don't want to get in trouble by your parents for sneaking in."
"There asleep....back to what I was saying."
"I won't admit to something that isn't true! Spiderman can shoot webs out of his wrist for crying out loud! All the Hulk can do is yell HULK ANGRY! He is nothing special."
"Leave right now Logan!"
"Oh my goodness....your so...stupid."
"OUT....NOW!"
"Whatever Tracey."
With the last words said, Logan made his way over to Tracey's bedroom window. The mood in the air was vicious and the both of them had looks of disgust on their face. It was a perfectly good reason to get all bent out of shape over. They were talking about Spiderman and the Hulk all along. Almost clearing the window, Logan made one last remark...
"Spiderman is better."
"OUT!"
TRACEY
I'm going to do it. Making sure the lights of my parent's bedroom were off, I made my way over to my bedroom window. Through the light black curtains that tried to provide privacy for Logan's room, I could see his silhouette against the blue walls. I have to talk to him. What was I going to say once I got over there?....Hey Logan I just had to see you one last time before I go back to school where our lives will split apart again. Whether I had something to say or not, I was determined to get my butt over there somehow.
Climbing out of the window, I grabbed over at the vines that had grown along the wall of my house. You know in the movies, where the girl gracefully climbs down the vines and runs to her knight in shining armor, where she lays a fat kiss on her man? Yeah...well that wasn't happening for me. Trying to find a foothold along the wall I lost my grip and tumbled to the ground. Don't ask how I maintained to keep my mouth shut when I hit my leg against the giant boulder at the bottom. Since when did that idiotic thing show up. Stupid element of nature.
"Whose out there?"
Oh....My...Gosh.
"I have a flippin shotgun! I'll blow your head off!"
"Logan....I can clearly see it's a broom handle."
I could see Logan lean farther out the window until he finally spotted me lying down in the grass. A look of confusion washed over his face.
"Tracey, is that you?"
I know, if I had looked out my window and seen Logan laying on the ground I would have been freaked out too. Poor guy, I probably just granted him a nightmare.
"Yeah it's me. Can I come up?"
"Uh... let me check to see if my parent's are asleep."
I waited patiently as I saw Logan go and make sure that his parent's were peacefully asleep. He was dressed in, what I was guessing to be his pj's. They were cotton plaid pants and on his slim, but built torso was a loose fitting graphic tee. So he liked to fall asleep in style I see.
"There asleep, come on up."
"Do you even want me to?"
"Is the pope Catholic?"
I stood there for a moment thinking of the answer to his question. Holy crap....was the pope Catholic?
"Come on Tracey."
"Okay."
This time I successfully climbed up into his room without anymore injury. His room had certainly changed since the last time I had been there. That had nearly been 6 years ago though. We were 18 now, no duh his room was going to look different.
"Wow Logan...I'm impressed."
He looked up and pushed the loose hair out of his eyes. Those eyes pierced into me once again, but oh did I love the feeling.
"Impressed how? That it's actually clean. Its nuts I know."
"No I mean, it's done up real nice."
"Oh, well thank you."
"Where are all your action figures though?"
LOGAN
Looking around my walls at where my action once laid brought back many memories.
"I took them down a long time ago, I had no use for them anymore. BUT, I did keep one out in particular."
I noticed Tracey was walking to a certain spot in my room. A spot where I knew she would first find interest in. There, sitting on the nightstand next to my bed was the Incredible Hulk action figure she gave me 6 years ago. It was still in perfect mint condition.
"You actually did keep it."
"I told you I did Tracey."
"Yeah, I know...but its like...confimation I guess."
She turned around and looked at me. Her eyes looked misty and I noticed a thin layer of moisture glazing over those beautiful eyes.
"Thanks Logan, for....keeping it and not throwing it out, even if it seemed like I kicked you to the curb."
"Oh, I don't think you kicked me to the curb....Just karate chopped me in the balls."
She began to laugh hysterically at my comment. I had to admit her laugh brought a smile to my face.
"Did that joke make you feel like crap?"
"Yeah...it really did."
"Good, someone I know who was covered head to toe in ice cream told me that you know when a joke works when it makes the other person feel like crap."
Tracey looked down at her shoes. Black converse...nice choice. Wow...was there anything that was wrong with this girl? Oh yeah...maybe the part where she would never like a guy like me. Wait a minute, she did almost break her neck to get over here. Nah... she just wanted to visit like old times.
"You play the guitar I take it?"
I noticed her glance toward my wall with all babies lined up in a row. Heck yeah I played the guitar!
"Of course! Those are my babies."
"Which ones your favorite?"
This was so.... AWESOME! No one had ever asked me about my guitars before, so I never showed them the baby I had locked away in my room. It was in a glass case that I usually covered with a dark cloth. I was taking no chances of someone looking and stealing it.
"I promise to show you if you don't breathe hard around it."
Tracey smiled.
"You think I'm joking Tracey?"
"Oh...sorry."
"I'm just kidding, not that crazy about it. Okay I am, just...please... don't hurt her."
"I promise I won't even think about touching it."
"Okay, I trust you."
Why did I trust her? I couldn't give you an answer to that one. Yet, for some reason I had the sense to just do it. To just trust Tracey even though we hadn't spoken to each other in ages.
Grabbing the black cloth that covered the glass case I revealed my beauty.
"There she is."
Tracey gasped with shock. I could tell in her eyes that she wanted to touch it. The guitar even had that impression on me at the moment.
"It's beautiful Logan."
"It's a 1959 Les Paul Standard. I paid about $9,000 for it. Every penny well spent."
"Wow, it really is amazing."
I couldn't help but stare at Tracey. Though we were total opposites, her a preppy girl that could have anything in the world if she wanted, and me a school loner who couldn't be noticed to save his life, I still found her...amazingly wonderful. I just couldn't...help the feeling.
"Yeah it is Tracey, but I find myself admiring the Hulk action figure more."
Tracey looked back over at the Hulk action figure still sitting there as it had a few minutes ago.
"That's because Hulk is the best."
"Okay I think you need to go now."
"He is! Hulk is the best!"
"Goodbye Tracey!"
She began to move towards the window and I followed behind. She moved with such grace that I couldn't help but wonder how she had fallen out her window.
"Spiderman's got nothing on the Hulk!"
"Keep thinking that Tracey."
I was now giving Tracey a hand out the window. She almost slipped at one point, but I had caught her before she tumbled down the wall for a second time. When Tracey had two feet on the glossy dew grass she glanced back up at me and said....
"Thanks for letting me come up Logan."
"It was a pleasure to have some company."
"I may come over more often."
"Your more then welcome."
With having that said, Tracey turned and climbed the vines on the side of her house, where she made it safely inside her room.
Wow, I thought to myself...Tracey Shay actually climbed my house and came into my room. On top of that, she may come over again. Whether that was true or not I could't help the voice in my head that said....
Logan Trooper you actually took a huge leap in a big thing called LIFE.
