Hit me twice

Drama Created on 11-7-07 Views(70) Story Rating G

I laid there for I don't know how long before Luke came in looking for me. Luke was Alexa's boyfriend. He was tall, and muscular with dark brown hair and light honey brown eyes.            "Erica!" He yelled when he saw me lying there on the floor. He came and knelt down beside me. I looked at him through one eye because the other was swollen, my nose was bleeding and I had a cut below my left eye from Joey's class ring. Luke touched my arm and I cringed.            "Okay, Erica I'm going to take you down stairs." He said gently as he lifted my head up off the floor. He picked me up and I laid in his arms like a rag doll. He walked slowly down the stairs. The party had pretty much ended except for the few that were too drunk to drive. I saw Quinn jump up when she saw me in Luke's arms.            "Oh my God! What happened?" She exclaimed.             "Quinn just call an ambulance, now." Luke said keeping his calm. He walked over to the couch and laid me down. He tried to walk away, but I reached up and grabbed his arm.             "Don't leave me." I whispered.            "Okay, I won't. I'm right here." He said taking my hand. I could hear Quinn on the phone in the kitchen.            "Quinn!" Luke yelled to get her attention. "Bring me a warm washcloth."  He said then looked at me.            "Erica? Did Joey do this? Did he beat you?" He asked softly. I nodded my head yes.            "Son of a Bitch!" He whispered harshly. I reached down with my other hand and laid it on his shoulder.            "Don't be mad." I whispered. "He was drunk; I don't think he knew what he was doing."             "That doesn't matter, Erica he still did it." He said taking the rag from Quinn and pressing it to the cut under my eye.             "Ow." I said as I flinched. Alexa grabbed my hand and held me close to her.             After awhile I heard the wail of the ambulance sirens. Luke went out to the paramedics.            "She's in here." I heard him say to one of them. They followed Luke over to the couch where I was sitting with Alexa. I noticed one of the paramedics was one of my ex boyfriends, Derek Stanley, a short, stocky kind of guy with brown hair and blue eyes. He knelt by the couch and looked at my injuries.            "Miss I need you to look up." Derek instructed. I don't think he knew that this girl whose face was bloody and swollen was one that he once gazed at for hours. I looked up but only with my left eye because my right was too swollen to open.             "Okay, we’re going to take you to the hospital for some stitches for that eye and we'll get ya fix up. Now can ya hop up on the stretcher and we'll get ya taken care of." Derek said. I got up slowly and Derek and Luke helped me up on the stretcher, then they wheeled me out to the ambulance. It was a long ride and no one came with me, Quinn and Luke were going to come to the hospital after they cleaned up the house.             "How ya doing over there?"  Derek asked me.            "Alright." I whispered. "It's nice to see you again Derek." I said not thinking.            "Do I know you?" He asked with a puzzled look on his face.             "Yeah, it’s me Erica." I said as my voice started coming back to me.            "Erica? Erica Brady?" He said surprised. "How have you been? I mean other than this." He said nervously. "What happened?" He asked.             "My boyfriend was drunk and I refused to have sex with him."             "So he beat you up?" He said shocked.            "He would never hit me knowingly. I think it was the alcohol." I said defending Joey's actions.            "Where is he? Was he at the house?" He asked.            "No, He left after he did this." I said looking at my hands. A few of my nails were broken from fighting with him and I had some scrapes from trying to defend myself. Derek was cleaning some of my wounds with alcohol and I flinched.            "Now you have to stop moving." He said.            "But it hurts." I protested.             "It will keep you from getting an infection." He replied bringing the cotton ball closer to my face. I still moved a little. After he had cleaned the wounds on my face we arrived at the hospital where I received thirteen stitches in the cut below my left eye and an ice pack for my right eye. After that Quinn and Luke showed up and took me home.

I climbed the front steps of my parents’ ranch style home and picked up the frog sitting next to the door and grabbed the key to the front door. When inside I walked straight upstairs and went to bed, It was four a.m. and my parents were, thankfully, still asleep. Around eight a.m. my cell phone started ringing, I looked at the number and it was Joey, so I turned my phone off and went back to sleep. My parents didn't bother me at all Sunday because they thought I was just exhausted from the dance and after prom.

Monday morning I got up and took a shower then got dressed and did my hair. I looked in the mirror and wondered how I was going to hide the cuts and bruises. I put on a layer of foundation and then covered my eye with my hair. Not bad I thought to myself the only thing you could see was the stitches. Now to think up a good lie. I said to myself. I couldn't let everyone hate Joey and I couldn't just turn on him like that. I went downstairs, yelled bye to my parents and went out to the garage. My silver Honda CR-V was already running. Maybe Dad started it for me. I thought as I opened the garage door. I had just pulled out of the garage when I noticed the blue and gold dodge truck blocking my exit. Joey was leaning against his truck waiting for me.
