The life of a wild power, my story
|
Her auburn hair tossed in the fall breeze as she walked to her new home in a new town in a new world. ‘This place is awful…’ She thought. ‘No one accepts you. How am I ever going to make it here?’ She looked around and saw no sign of life anywhere. ‘How did I get stuck here? In someplace out in the middle of nowhere, some country farm house that smells and having to ride the bus instead of taking my car.’ She kicked up some dirt; coughing as the dust flew back at her. ‘Isn’t this the 21st century? Can’t they pave roads now?’ She thought bitterly. She continued her lonesome walk down the lane to her parents’ new home. Mac and Sin came running at her. They ran around her legs almost knocking her down.
“Come on guys!” I shouted. The dogs stopped running around and gave me that dumb dog look, with head tilted and tongue hanging out.
“I love you guys. You’re the only good thing about being here.” I said as I bent down to hug their massive bodies. Mac, a tan furred mastiff and Sin, a black, black, black Labrador Retriever were my dogs that I’ve had since I was three, so they’re pretty old, but as energetic as puppies. I shifted my bag on both shoulders and took off running down the rest of the distance to the house. Winded I entered the garage and threw my book bag in the corner. I basically ripped the tarp off my car. My gorgeous “Old Navy Truck” as I referred to it. I opened the driver side door and slid in. It was so comfortable behind the wheel of my car. I can’t wait until it’s completely done.
“What ya doing?” I heard someone say. It jolted me from my thoughts. Seth, my dad’s hired hand was standing in the doorway. His dirty blonde hair hung in his bright blue eyes and he smiled mischievously at me.
“Just having some alone time with my car.” I replied. I got out and shut the door. Seth helped me put the tarp back on.
“Your dad told me this morning not to let you near it today.”
“What?! Why?”
“He said something about grades?” He acted like he couldn’t remember. “But don’t worry I won’t rat on you.”
“I appreciate that. Do you want something from the house?” I said as I picked up my stuff. I glanced behind me and saw him staring. I stood up and turned around. *Cough* He snapped out of his trance.
“Um… no thanks, your mom just brought me some lemonade.” He said as he blushed with embarrassment. “Well I better get back to fixing that tractor.”
“Okay, see ya later.” I said as I left the barn. I grinned to myself. ‘He’s kind of cute.’ I thought. I walked into the house and the kitchen was filled with smoke.
*Cough* “Mom? Are you in here?” I hollered through the thick black smoke.
“Yeah, honey. Can you help me get these windows open?” Mom shouted from across the kitchen. I headed for a window but ran into something. It made a small “oomph” sound.
“Seth?” I said as someone’s arms pinned mine.
“Are you okay?” I heard Seth’s voice.
“Yeah, I was trying to open the window.” I said as he let me go and I opened the window. The smoke cleared and I saw mom in an apron with food splattered everywhere. Seth burst out in questions.
“Was something on fire? Is everyone okay? What happened?” He bustled.
“I was trying a new recipe and it got a little out of hand.” Mom said shrugging.
“I’m fine, thanks Seth.” I said turning to him. “I need air now.” I said as I walked out on the porch. ‘Breathe Riz, Breathe.’ I thought to myself.
“Here” Seth said holding out a glass of water. “Drink it, it will help.”
“You know you didn’t have to come in.”
“I thought something was wrong.”
“Well, Thanks.” I coughed the words out.
“Well I better head back to the barn.” He said. We parted ways, he to the barn and me back into the house. I grabbed a rag of the sink and started cleaning off the counter, when I noticed the wine bottle shoved between the fridge and the microwave, I picked it up and it was almost empty.
