Story Book Romance Chapter 1
|
Keeli took a deep breath, her knuckles going white from gripping her steering wheel too tightly. She pushed the driver's side door open and slid out, trying to shut it quietly. Opening the back hatch, she began to pull the three black garbage bags out of the vehicle. Clutching one of the lighter bags and the painting she made her way up to the front porch only to see Mrs. Henrik waving at her, gardening gloves and all. It was obvious by the look on her face, a mix of regret and pity, that Cameron had let the cat out of the bag.
"Oh well," thought Keeli, "she was bound to find out eventually." She marched up to the front door doing her best to keep her chin high. Knocking at what she thought was a medium volume, Cameron answered the door. He tried to hold it open for her, but Keeli just pushed past him and stalked off to his bedroom. Depositing the bag on the floor, she handed Cameron the painting as she walked out the front door to retrieve the others. When Keeli looked up from dropping the last of the bags she found Cameron silently sobbing on his bed. The portrait was laying face up at the bed and his eyes seemed glued to it, almost as if in a trance.
Keeli wanted to comfort him, but couldn't quite make herself. That is until he looked up at her with the sadest expression she had ever witnessed. Keeli walked over and sat down behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist, and he leaned back into her.
"Cameron, you don't have to do this you know."
"Yeah, I do Keels. Especially after...what you said last night."
"Oh." Keeli stood up and walked out his door. She looked back over her shoulder before she walked out the front door, expecting to see Cam on her heels. He wasn't. She slunk back to his room.
"I'm leaving now Cam."
"Ok?"
"Whatever."
"What the fuck is wrong with you Keeli?"
"You mean besides my boyfriend breaking up with me?" Keeli's retort was curt. Her eyes were brimming with tears.
"Keels..."
Cameron walked over to her and wrapped her in a hug. It was suffocating. She couldn't have him being like this with her. It was going to be hard enough to move on as it was. Keeli tried to turn and walk out of the room, but he grabbed her arm and spun her in for a kiss. It lasted only a second before Cameron pulled away and spoke.
"Please don't tell anyone I did that." Of course. A pity kiss. And here Keeli thought he was actually going to reconsider. Of course he wasn't.
"I have to go."
"Ok. Do what you have to."
"God damn it Cameron! All I want is for you to ask me not to leave!"
"I know Keels. I wish that I could do that, but I can't. Its hard enough for the both of us, I'm not going to make it any more difficult than it already is."
"Whatever. I still love you."
"I know Keels."
With this Keeli actually turned and walked out the door. Mrs. Henrik was in the living room. Seeing the tears streaming down her face, the older woman wrapped her in a hug. This was the first time Keeli allowed herself to truly cry about it. After saying her goodbyes to his family, Keeli left. She spent a moment consoling herself in the car before turning on the ignition and driving away.
At home Keeli locked herself in the "dungeonarium." She lived in the basement at her grandfather's house. Her Mom and Grandpa had the upstairs bedrooms and it was days like these she enjoyed the isolation. The home office was connected to her room, in fact you had to walk through it to get to her bedroom. Keeli signed online to instant messenger.
"Figures, no one's online when I am." Keeli clicked around and decided to log into a chat room.
"What the hell have I got to lose?" She thought. As soon as her ID signed into the Adult Chatroom "Virtual Whipped Cream", dozens of personal messages popped up in the browser.
"Well, maybe I'll pick just ONE to start with," thought Keeli as she clicked on the first window."
BusyBeaver88: Hey
AntiPopRiot: Hi.
BusyBeaver88: Asl?
Keeli thought for a moment before deciding to be honest in this converstation. It wasn't like she would ever meet any of these guys. What was the harm in having someone to actually talk to?
BusyBeaver88: You there?
AntiPopRiot: Yeah, sorry. 16, u?
BusyBeaver88: 27.
AntiPopRiot: Cool.
BusyBeaver88: You don't think its weird? Or that you're a bit young to be in this room?
AntiPopRiot: Nah. I'm good if you are.
BusyBeaver88: Alrightie then. Name?
AntiPopRiot: Keeli. u?
BusyBeaver88: Jeramie.
AntiPopRiot: Cool. I think my sister dated a guy name Jeramie once...
BusyBeaver88: Oh really? How old is she?
AntiPopRiot: 24.
BusyBeaver88: Maybe I should talk to her instead...
AntiPopRiot: Way to lose my interest asshole.
Keeli closed the window and blocked "BusyBeaver88" from her messenger list. Her ears perked up at the sound of the door opening. She quickly logged out and closed down the web browsers, disconnecting from the internet. Keeli's Mom was pretty strict about internet usage, she was only allowed to talk to people she had already met in person. Keeli had just walked out of the office as her Mom came down stairs.
"What were you up to?" Sharon could be a bit intrusive but Keeli decided just to play along tonight, it was easier this way, "I was reading in my room. Just comming up for a drink."
"Ok sweetie. You alright?"
"Yeah Mom I'll be fine."
Sharon kissed her youngest daughters fire-engine red hair and headed off into the office as Keeli went into the kitchen reveling in the fact that she could still lie straight to her mother's face.
