Full Moon Rising: Chapter 2

Eventually, Salina had fallen asleep on the shoulder of her captor. He moved swiftly, never making a move harsh enough to wake her. At one point the had stopped for a rest, laying the young girl across his lap. The ground was cold and he didn’t want her to become uncomfortable. It was of the utmost importance she not know where she was going.

She was pale, not as pale as he was, but white none the less. The moonlight reflected off her skin in a most delectable way. Her long, black eyelashes were such a drastic complement to her face they looked almost drawn on.

He picked her back up and started on the road yet again. It was getting late for him to be out, almost sunrise. Oh how he longed for the velvet lining in his coffin. But no, that must wait. First he must set this beautiful creature up in a room, not far from his. And then he must report to the coven. They would want the first hand news, not Dimitri’s gossip.

Ahead of them loomed a broken down building. An old apartment complex. It was destroyed and condemned, no one dared to enter. And that was just the way the vampires liked it. He knocked thrice on the door and stood back. The door exploded outward and he walked in.

Salina stirred at the sound of wood splintering. She simply shifted in her captor’s arms as he spun a combination into a thick metal door. It was the door to the safe at First Liberty Mutual, but they didn’t miss it. He heard the last number click into place. They didn’t keep the same combination for more than a few hours, lest a traitor find out the combination. The security lied in their super-sensitive hearing. They could hear and feel when the right number stuck. No one, not even a filthy dog could do that.

The vault door swung open and he walked inside.

Salina woke up and for that brief moment before she opened her eyes, she was in her room in her soft bed, and all of last night had been some horrible nightmare. No such luck. She looked around, it was a simple room. The walls and floors were solid oak, as were the posts on her bed. Her sheets were a deep, blood red. They were made of silk as was her comforter, although that was black. She looked down and immediately pulled the covers up to her chin when she realized she was completely naked. At that precise moment a elderly woman walked into her room.

“Where am I?”

“Who are you”

“What are you doing?”

No matter what question Sal asked, the woman would not so much as look at her. She simply crossed to the windows, made sure the curtains were in place, and glared at the young girl.

“Salina, it would do you well to keep your mouth shut here. All are not as tolerant as I when it comes to questions spewing out of an ignorant mouth.”

That was all it took to shut Sal up. She sat there staring at the woman until she exited the room. Letting the blankets fall she began to walk around the room.

“There must be something else in here,” she mused as she felt her way around the walls. There was a crack in the wall behind her bed. Feeling around, she noticed it was in the shape of ¾ of a rectangle. As she ran her fingers over the smooth wood, she was thrown backwards.

Looking up, she noticed the stranger from last night standing in a whole in the wall exactly where she had been. Remembering she was naked, she ran and jumped on the bed, pulling the blanket up to her chin yet again.

Chuckling, the stranger spoke, “Really Salina, its not that big of a mystery to me. I was the one who undressed you in the first place.”

Seeing the look on her face, he laughed at her yet again, “Oh do not be so foolish. Even I would not stoop so low as to take advantage of an unwilling guest as they slept.”

Relief washed over her face as she looked him over more thoroughly. From what she remembered, his eyes and hair were black as night. Now that she was no longer as terrified for her life, she could pick out the traces of gold and honey in his hair. His eyes were now a clear, pristine green. They shone with amusement and she wondered how they had gone to such radical ends of the spectrum.

“What day is it?” asked Salina.

“Well it is just after sunset on March the 29^th.”

He smiled at her, and in the twilight, he looked a bit less terrifying.

“Your dinner will be sent up to you since I’ve yet to find you suitable attire to wear out of your room.

The stranger walked back towards the hole in the wall and just before he entered it, Salina spoke, “Do I at least get to know the name of the ass wipe that kidnapped me?”

“Karayan. If you need anything just knock thrice on the wall and someone will attend to you, hopefully me.”

His eyes were no longer green. They were black and filled with something unmistakable. She kept thinking about it long after he climbed through the wall. Was it desire, or simply hunger?
