        I climbed out of the rusty U-Haul truck and slammed the door shut to examine my new house. Smack in the middle of a Las Vegas suburb, my new abode was a two-story, white house, accented with a dark seafoam trim. 'It's not so bad,' i thought. I had never wanted to move to Nevada from Florida. But your parent getting his job office relocated calls for drastic measures, and at the unripe, adolescent age of fifteen during the summertime, I had no choice.
          The move wouldn't have been as grinding in my mind if I was a "normal" teenage girl.  You know, with flat- ironed hair and an enthusiastic personality. I'm the complete opposite. My crazy, brown curls spiral down my back as my dark outlook on life ceases people from liking me at all. My short and "cute poochy stomach" stature gets me nowhere with guys. So I am far from Miss America, and way out of my comfort zone of rock music and emo friends. Las Vegas was no place for me.
         "Sky, baby, why don't you take everything of yours out of the truck so your father and I can work with what's left?" my mom said, breaking my chain of thoughts.
          "Yeah, ok," I replied, moving to the back of the truck to claim my boxes and start carrying them to my room on the second floor of the house.
~~~~~~
          A week after we had moved in and settled into our new house was when my life in Las Vegas took a turn for the better.
          I had heard a soft, yet repetitive knocking on the front door. And when neither of my parents called it, I decided to answer it.
          Standing in our doorway, was the most beautiful thing I had seen since being in Nevada. He was about 5 foot 7 inches tall and had jet black hair. I opened my mouth to speak, when he beat me to it.
          "Hi, I'm Brendon. I live next door," he nervously jutted out his hand.
          "Hey," I said, shaking his hand, "um.. Skyler... I'm Skyler."
          "Awesome," Brendon replied, smiling. "I had seen you move in about a week ago, and finally got the chance to introduce myself."
          "Yeah. I didn't know there were any young people around here. Everyone I've seen has been middle-aged or old," I smiled and laughed at my pitiful attempt to make conversation.
          "Well, maybe you weren't looking in the right places," Brendon joked. "If you're ever bored, you're welcome to come over and hang out. I'm right next door."
        "Okay. Will do, Brendon," I smiled and realized i was fidgiting like a nervous little girl.
        "Cool. Hope to see you some more, Skyler," My name said in his voice made me feel relaxed and giddy at the same time.
        "Bye," I said. And as I shut the door he gave a little wave and retreated down the steps.
        I glanced at the clock and saw it was about 8:30 pm. My parents were crashed in the living room. It was a prime opportunity to waste time on YouTube. I climbed the stairs up to my room and flipped my lamp on. The blinds on my window were open and before I could shut them, I happened to peek into the window of the room next door. To my surprise, there stood Brendon, a guitar slung around his waist. He was playing like a pro, with his head down and concentrating on the notes. I snapped myself out of my dreamy state of mind, and closed the blinds.
~~~~~~
        The next day, boredom struck hard, like a smack in the face. I scanned my mind for ideas. Everything seemed like it had been done 20 times over until Brendon popped into my head.
        "Well, he did say 'if i was ever bored'," I said to myself. I quickly slipped into skinny jeans and drew on some eyeliner before telling my mom where i was off to. Then I trotted over to Brendon's and knocked twice on the door.
        "Dude! I know! No, man, I met her yesterday!" I heard Brendon's voice through the door, and I quickly wondered of this was a bad idea. I knew he was talking about me, but to who?
        The door opened and there he stood. In jeans and a black t-shirt, Brendon smiled a broad, toothy grin.
        "Skyler! I'm glad you came," he greeted me.
        "Yeah. You never quite realize how boring the suburbs are when you don't live in one," I joked.
        Brendon laughed and said, "Got that right. Hey, come in and meet my friends."
        "Sure!" I agreed.
        He led me through a hallway, then into a living room, where his mother sat and read a cheesy-looking romance novel.
        "Mom, this is Skyler," he introduced me. "She just moved into the house next door."
        "Oh, hello!" She stood up and took my right hand in hers as a friendly gesture. "You can call me Liz. I'm so glad the boys will have someone new to hang out with." She didn't look like most moms. Her hair was in a choppy cut, and she wore a deep purple hoodie and jeans.
        "Hi, it's great to meet you, Liz," I politely smiled.
        "This way," Brendon guided. I followed him up a flight of stairs and into a door covered with road signs and bumper stickers with sarcastic sayings on them.
        Brendon opened the door to reveal walls coated with band posters and multiple lava lamps. Seated in different chairs in the middle of the room, were 3 others guys.
        "Guys, this is Skyler," Brendon announced. Then motioning to each person he said, "Skyler this is Ryan," Ryan was a very skinny guy, holding an acoustic guitar. He had shaggy, brown hair and looked like a shy person.
        "Hello, Skyler," Ryan said with a look up at my face before returning to his guitar.
        Continuing, Brendon said, "This is Spencer," a chubby boy compared to Ryan, with a baby face. "And this is Jon," Brendon finished pointing to a guy with dark brown hair and features that made him seem like an outgoing person.
        "Hi, guys," I gave a small smile and looked at Brendon.
        "Have a seat, we're just hanging out," Brendon explained.
        Curious to how he'd respond, i replied with a flirty ambitious tone in my voice, "Thanks for letting me barge in."
        He stepped a little closer, flashed a flirty smile and said, "Anytime," before taking a seat next to Jon.
