What it all comes down too |prologue|
When I was seven years old, my mother married Raymond Gibson, a very wealthy lawyer in Miami. Raymond, at the time, was living in a three bedroom home with a pool in the backyard and a pretty nice view as far as I was concerned—but I was only seven, so I didn’t know everything.
I didn’t know we would be moving in with the love of my mother’s life. I didn’t know that I would have to change schools. I didn’t know that moving in meant marriage. I didn’t know that marriage meant I’d have to put on a dress and pretend to be happy while throwing flowers out of a basket… and I most certainly didn’t know that my new father had a disastrous son.
That first year was horrible; and unfortunately for me the year after that was worse. I was used to being an only child and now I had to share my time and space with some rebel child who didn’t listen to a thing anyone said.
But, like I said, I didn’t know everything back then.
There were a few more things I had to learn, and one of the things I had to learn was this: It’s the people you least expect who teach you the most important life lessons.
