Chapter 21

Friday came around quickly and sadly, I had the day off from work. I was determined that I wasn’t going to the party—actually, besides prom I had never been to one. Nathan and Tracey had other plans though.

“You’re going!” Tracey yelled on Thursday night. “It’s settled!”

“I agree with Tracey…” Nathan mumbled while flipping through one of my magazines.

I rolled my eyes at him but he didn’t see me.

“What the hell is the big deal?” I asked while plopping down on my bed next to Nathan. “It’s just a party!”

“Just a party?” Tracey asked in disbelief. “Just a party?!”

Nathan laughed and continued reading. “Uh, yeah…”  I replied.

“This isn’t just a party!” She said in a rather loud voice—she wasn’t quite yelling though. “This is the party! The first party of our college years!”

I shrugged. “Okay? And if I don’t go to this one then the next one will be the first of my college years.”

“You’re unbelievable!” She said placing her hands on her hips. “This isn’t up for discussion… You’re going!”

I shook my head as if to say, “No, I’m not!”

But she was right. It wasn’t up for discussion. If it was, I wouldn’t be where I am now… the party.

Pitbulls’ “Get freaky” was blasting through the speakers when we walked off the elevator and everyone was drinking. The party was taking up the whole fourth floor and different dorms were being used for different things.

In one dorm, there was a card game and from all the smoke I could tell that that was the smoke room too. In another room there was food on a table and drinks right beside it. The room across from that was where the music was coming from and everyone in there was dancing. Further down the hall, there were two rooms being used for make our sessions—the couches did look comfortable though. And in the rooms furthest down the hall, those were all the ‘occupied’ rooms—if you know what I mean.

Of course, I went for the food. I was practically starving since Tracey dragged me all through the mall earlier in the day trying to find an outfit and didn’t stop to eat. I already had an outfit though—I had too many clothes already, I wasn’t going to spend money on more!

I had on a pink baby doll dress, black leggings, and a cute pair of pink wedges. My accessories were pink and black. My hoops were black, and so was my beaded necklace. But, I had on pink and black bracelets and a huge pink ring.

You couldn’t tell I was pregnant at all.

After I ate, I danced with Nathan for a few songs. It got crazy when I guy came in wearing boxers and black sunglasses. He was acting completely crazy and I would put money on it that he was drunk.

Tracey and I went out of the room to go get some water, and she tapped my shoulder.

“Look,” She said nodding toward a short girl with a really short black dress on. It was too short. I swear if she would bend over even the slightest bit all her personal possessions would be exposed. I was hoping and praying she didn’t do it—I didn’t want to see anything that was hidden under that dress. “That’s Deshanna, Kenneth’s girlfriend.”

I gasped and almost spit out the sip of water I had taken. “Are you serious?!”

She nodded and began sipping her own water. “Her room is on our floor… She’s very…” Tracey paused and examined the girl for a second. “Nice.” She finally finished.

I gave her an accusing look. “Why’d you pause? What’s wrong with her?”

She raised her eyebrows at me and then smirked. “See for yourself… go talk to her…”

The way she said it made it seem like I should be scared or something. “No thanks.” I answered quickly.

Tracey smiled and shrugged. “Suit yourself… I thought you would want to know her since… well, you and Kenneth are—”

“—Me and Kenneth are what?” I asked cutting her off.

“Well… I’m not sure exactly… it’s obvious that there’s something going on though.”

“Maybe you should stop jumping to conclusions!” I snapped.

Her face grew shocked and I instantly became apologetic. “I-I’m sorry… It’s not my fault… my hormones are out of control!”

“It’s okay… It happens.” She said smiling. “You wanna go dance?”

I shook my head. “No… you go ahead.” I mumbled.

“Alrighty… but don’t leave!” She said giving me a hug. Afterwards, she disappeared into the dimly lit room.

 I walked into one of the rooms with a couch and sat down. I was glad I was the only one there. The music was at a low volume from in here and I was glad. They were playing ‘My girl got a girlfriend’ now and I just closed my eyes and listened to the song.

Seconds later, I got the feeling that I wasn’t alone.

I opened my eyes, and there stood Deshanna—Kenneth’s nice girlfriend. “Uh, hi?” I said nervously.

The way she was staring at me was a little creepy, but I was glad when she smiled. “Hey, what’s up?” She replied while plopping onto the sofa next to me.

“Waiting for this party to be over…” I mumbled.

“You’re not having much fun huh?”

I couldn’t help but laugh, though it was true. “Absolutely not.”

She smiled and held out her hand. “I’m Deshanna…”

“Kim.” I replied while taking it.

I couldn’t stop myself from examining her outfit again. “That’s a very… bold choice for a party.”

“Yeah… I like to go all out. I’m a risk taker.” She said as if that was an excuse for looking like a tramp in front of this many people. All she needed was a pole and she’d look like she was being paid to be here.

“Ah.” I said nodding slowly. “So, you’re dating Kenneth?”

“Well… actually, I only dated him once… We scheduled for the real date to take place real soon though.”

I was confused and I didn’t mind saying so. “I’m confused.”

She nodded. “Actually, you kind of should be. It’s top secret.”

“Oh.” I replied dumbfounded.

“So uh… do you think I’m pretty?” She asked, changing the subject.

“I guess.” I replied nonchalantly.

“So you’re bi?” She asked.

“No!” I gasped. “Why… a—are you?”

She shrugged. “Occasionally… you’re really pretty though.”

“Thanks…” I mumbled.

She stood up and smiled at me. “It was very nice meeting you” She said while reaching down to give me a hug. “I hope to see you again beautiful…” She whispered in my ear.

My bottom jaw dropped and she smiled at my expression before leaving the room.

I sat there for a minute and let the whole conversation replay in my head. Before I knew it, I was stomping off toward the dance room.

I spotted Tracey easily and pulled her out of the room. “You think you’re funny huh?!” I asked. “You think you’re so funny!”

She looked at me in bewilderment for a second and then she started laughing. “Wait… you talked to her didn’t you?”

“Hell yeah! She came on to me!”

“I told you she was nice…” She replied before laughing again.

“Ugh! I’m going to my room… I’ve had enough!”

“Hey!” Tracey called behind me. “At least she’s pretty… I’d totally sleep with her!” She said jokingly, I think.

“Yeah, she’s a real head turner!” I said before stepping onto the elevator.
