“This is fucking crazy! Am I jinxed? Do these things only happen to me?” I was completely distorted and the fact that the doctors hadn’t been out to tell us anything had me scared.

“It’s not you that this is happening to!” Ty said. He was apparently annoyed because I wouldn’t shut the fuck up.

“Yeah it-”

“Yo, shut up!” He yelled.

I jumped a little bit and leaned back into my chair. “Sorry.” He mumbled.

I was still trying to get into contact with Shugg and Danny. I guess they were still in the middle of that big scene on 28th.

I took in a deep breath and made an over dramatic noise. “Why cant someone just tell me what the hell is going on?!”

I got up and walked toward the door where I had seen them take Mush. Just as I was about to go in a doctor came out with a small smile on her face.

She didn’t have to say anything for me to know that everything was okay. I smiled back and let out a sigh of relief.

“Everything went well. He has a pretty bad cut on his side and he lost a lot of blood but he hasn’t suffered any life threatening injuries. He’s just fine.” She said.

I jumped up and hugged her. “Thank you! thank you! thank you!” I said fast.

She laughed and then I went back to my seat. No sooner than I had sat down Mush’s mother came into the hospital.

She gave me a look a disgust as she walked pass. I was particularly her favorite person in the world and she damn sure wasn’t mine.

“Where’s my son?” She said with just a bit more attitude than necessary.

I shrugged and rolled my eyes. Ty was on the phone telling someone where we were and wasn’t really paying us any attention.

“Stupid ass lil girl.” She said walking pass.

“Nah, that’s far from my description. Try again!” I shouted after her but she kept walking.

Ty got off the phone just then. “Damn… Why she don’t like you?” He asked with his eyes still on her while she was at the information desk.

“I don’t know and honestly I don’t give a fuck. She hated me every since she first saw me and I aint neva done nothing to the old heffa!”

“Whoa… calm yourself.”

We both sat back and watched as the same doctor I had been talking to was now talking to the ‘old heffa’. I laughed as she tried to act like she cared when everyone knew she was a whore who ran the streets and didn’t give a damn about nothing but dick and money.

“She look rough.” Ty said still staring her down. “She need to get herself togetha.”

I looked at him and couldn’t believe he was analyzing the woman. It was also funny to me how I had slept with the dude and suddenly I felt no sparks between us at all. For me to have told him not to break my heart, I must have been trippen. My heart had nothing to do with him at all.

I started laughing. “Stop talkin bout that lady before she come ova here and get loud.”

“Nah, she aint finna get loud wit me.”

I looked at him with that ‘if you say so’ look and then reached for my phone which had just started to vibrate.

“Yo where you at? You aight?” was what I heard when I picked up.

“Damn… can I say hello?” I said to Shugg.

“You just did. Where you? I got like 50 missed calls from you. Erything aight?”

“I’m at the hospital.”

“What? Why?”

“Mush got stabbed and me and Ty had to bring him in. I tried calling you and Danny but neither one of Y’all was pickin up.”

“Oh damn. Danny right here, but is Mush aight?”

“Yeah… I just talked to the doctor she said he okay.”

“Oh aight glad to hear dat. I’m not gon be able to come out there though. I’ll go see him tomorrow.”

“We’ll be back around there soon.”

“Aight, be safe.” He said.

“Will do.” I replied.

“You mean to tell me I cant see my own son! You dirty ass, skank ass, no good ass trick!” I heard Mush’s mom yell from across the lobby.

“calm down. You can see him when the doctors are ready for him to have visitors. He’s still in there getting stitched up.”

“Visitor? I’m his momma!”

I looked away and rolled my eyes. “Disgusting.” I mumbled.

Ty got up and made his way over to the scene. “Excuse me? I’m a friend of Mush- I mean James- and I’d be more than happy to give you a ride up here in the morning to see him…. Until then, would you like a ride home?”

Ms. Stevens looked like she was about to slap him but instead she smiled like she hadnt just cursed the doctor out. “That would be great.”

“Ugh.” I said under my breath again.

“Okay good.” He came over to me and whispered. “I’m gonna take her home and I’ll be back to pick you up in a while okay?”

I nodded. “Okay cool.”

“You gon be aight?”

“yeah, I’m good.”

“Okay… call me if anything.”

I nodded again and they left the building.

The doctor came over to me and smiled. “Your boyfriend is nice.”

“Who? Ty? No that’s not my boyfriend… we had a thing but that’s over.”

She nodded and put a pen in her jacket pocket. “Oh… so I guess we’ll be done with James in a few minutes if you wanna see him.”

James? … Oh! Mush! “yeah that’ll be great.”

She smiled and turned to go see if things were good. She went back into the room and in about 10 minutes she came out, along with three other doctors. “You can come and see him now.”

I got up and practically ran into the room. Mush had his eyes closed and he looked to be sleeping. But even though I gently closed the door his eyes opened.

“hey…” I went over and leaned over him gently giving him a hug and a kiss on the forehead. “How you feelin’?”

“Like shit...” He joked.

I smiled and took in a deep breath. I grabbed his hand and looked down at our hands together like that, it looked perfect.

He gave a small laugh and I looked back at him. “What?” I asked now looking him in the eyes.

He shook his head. “Nothin’ just… you look like you deep in thought.”

I looked back at our hands intertwined.

How do you tell someone that you’re completely sprung over them without sounding stupid?

I took my free hand and brushed it up against his face. “I’m really glad you’re okay. I don’t know what I would’ve done if you wouldn’t have made it.” I caught myself from getting too emotional.

“I’m far from gone.”

I was looking him in the eyes and he was looking me in mine. It was now or never…

I leaned in and kissed him. At first we were both a little shocked but then he slipped his tongue in my mouth and it felt good. I didn’t think it would have me feeling like this.

I pulled away and rested my forehead against his.

“Was that a get well soon present?” He asked grinning.

“Something like that.”

My cell phone started vibrating and I opened my phone and read the message.

New message from Ty: “I’m outside. Come on…”

I text back “k.”

“I gotta go.” I kissed him one more time. “I’ll be by to see you tomorrow okay?”

“Looking forward to it.”

I smiled. “Oh and Shugg might be with me. He said he was coming to see you too.”

He nodded. “Ok”

I didn’t wanna leave but I had to. I blew him a kiss as I exited the room. Funny how a person can deny feelings for someone for so long and finally when you accept them, that’s when you feel complete.
