Epilogue
5 years later
“Jordan are you sure you don’t wanna go to the zoo tomorrow? You love hanging with uncle Troy and aunt Yalonda. Don’t you wanna see Elijah?”
“No mommy. I wanna go to grandpa’s house!”
I sighed. My 3-year-old daughter always wanted to go to her grandpa’s house.
Jalil came into the kitchen and kissed me on the lips. “I’ll drive her over on the way to work tomorrow.” He said.
I was a bit weary about Jordan spending so much time over there. I still hadn’t gotten over the whole gun thing with Sarah. Though they didn’t trial her as an adult for something she did as a minor, she pleaded insanity and she wasn’t getting out of the loony bin anytime soon.
“Okay…” I said bending down to zip her jacket.
We were all on our way to the park to watch the fireworks. It was the fourth of July and Jordan loved to see the colors.
When we got there we laid out a blanket and spread out under this huge tree.
“Look daddy!” She pointed toward the first set of fire works that hit the sky.
“I see them. They’re almost as beautiful as your mommy.”
I looked at him and smiled. He kissed me again and I wrapped my arms around him. It seems like having a horrible past only gave me the most beautiful present; And an amazing future to look forward too.
“I love you.”
“I love you too” Jalil said.
“eeeewwwww!” Jordan said scrunching up her face.
We all laughed and continued watching the fireworks.
