“I’m bored Yo!” Danny said coming from the kitchen with a big bag of Doritos and a sprite.

“And hungry too huh?” I asked sarcastically.

She rolled her eyes and plopped down into the seat.

I turned my attention back to the television where “love and basketball” was playing.

“Man Q is so fine.” Danny said.

“His name is Omar Epps.” I corrected.

“Is this or is this not a movie?” She asked.

“I’m just sayin’! Q ain’t fine, Omar Epps is!” I yelled.

She got quiet. “We need to go outside. We started to get a lil agitated.” She said.

I took in a deep breath and looked toward the window. It wasn’t dark yet but it would be getting there soon.

“Its 5:45…” I said still looking out the window.

“We can be in by 7. I have to go out, I hate being cramped up in the house all day.”

I contemplated for a minute and then agreed. Truth be told I was bored out of my mind. If going out meant having a little fun then I was up for it.

I ran in her room and put on some light blue jeans and a black hoodie. I didn’t really wanna draw too much attention to myself. I put in my huge silver hoops and then looked into the mirror.

“Damn… even dressed like this you still a cutie.” I said to myself. I blew a kiss to my reflection and ran into the living room where Danny was waiting.

“You good?”

“Yeah” I nodded.

We walked out the door and made our way to the outside world.

“Whew!” I said feeling relieved. “I am just not the couch potato kind of girl.”

Danny laughed. “Neither am I.”

We walked until we saw people we knew.

Mush, Freddy, Ace, Cocoa, Viola, Mac, Quan, and blaze were sitting on the bleachers in the park.

“Wassup Kiki!” Mush said getting up and coming toward me.

“Hey Mush. Wassup?” I asked as Danny left my side and went over to the rest of the crew.

“Uh… I guess I just wanted you to lemme know wassup. Like wit us?” He said looking right at me.

It was the first time I had seen Mush look nervous. It was the first time I had seen him look me in the eyes too.

“Mush… Where’s this comin’ from? C’mon stop playing.”

I tried to walk around him but he wouldn’t let me.

“No for real. I need you to tell me baby girl cuz’ I mean I like you or whateva and I know you like me too.”

“Why you trippen Mush? You ain’t neva really liked me like dat. You wanna fuck me maybe… but lets be real, you neva liked me.” I said a little agitated.

Truth be told, he was right. I always like him and I still did. But what the hell was I supposed to do about that?

“Dat ain’t even true Kiki. It’s not even like dat.”

“You right. It’s not like dat… its like this.” I walked away from him and went and joined every body else on the bleachers.

“Hey y’all!” I acted as if nothing happened.

When mush joined us again, he did the same. He really looked hurt though, I tried to avoid it but who could avoid that?

I was snapped out of my thoughts when Ty came up towards up with a smile on his face. I was trying to forget last night because I was having second thoughts about us… about everything.

Freddy got up and dapped Ty off and then Ty came and sat right beside me.

He kissed me on the cheek and I refused to even look at him.

“Damn… bad day?” He asked.

“Something like that.” I mumbled. “Actually, I’m finna leave y’all.”

“Why?” Cocoa asked.

“Headache.” I said standing up.

Mush smirked and looked away. I took a deep breath and turned away.

“You want me to go with you? Walk you home?” Ty asked.

I thought about and realized I was told not to be by myself. “Sure.”

He got up and we walked off the playground together. “So wassup? Why you actin so stiff?”

“I’m not… I’m just havin’ a weird day that’s all.”

“Weird day?”

“Ain’t dat what I said?” I snapped.

“Aye… chill.”

“I’m sorry… Didn’t mean that. I… Can we just… Not?”

He made a weird face, probably confused by my semi question. “Can we just not what?”

“This… us… I’m not ready. I got shit going on that I gotta resolve first. I got people to tie up loose ends with.” I said.

“People like… Mush?”

I looked up at him like he had two heads. “What? No! I mean well… kind of. Yeah…”

He smiled. “Dude got mad feelings for you. I could have told you that.”

I nodded. “But you didn’t. And now here we are…”

We stopped in front of my apartment complex and I dreaded going in. I wasn’t even supposed to be here. Funny how your own home doesn’t even feel safe after a while.

“So, I’ll see you later?”

I nodded. “Later…”
