“Now class, I don’t want anyone rushing on the project… its worth 30% of your grade and it’s due a week from Friday. That’s plenty of time”

Ms. Uraman kept talking and talking and while I was trying desperately not to notice, Eric’s eyes were still on me. I’d isolated myself from the whole group the last 15 minutes of class, and when the bell rang, a piece of paper landed on my desk.

I grabbed all my things and the note, and began reading while walking.

I really don’t wanna be broken up baby, I can’t take It anymore. Why’d you do it? Even if you don’t want to answer, I still want you to come to my house after cheerleading practice. I can give you a ride home afterwards. Ok?

P.s. I’m really sorry about calling you a bitch earlier.

I folded the note and put it in my purse. When I got to my locker I put all my things inside and made my way towards drama class.

“Angel wait!” India was right behind me when I turned around. “You wanna explain the bathroom thing earlier?”

“No. Actually I don’t” I turned around a kept walking.

“Well you should. You were being a bitch about the whole situation and you know it”

“Save the drama for drama class India”

“Oh I’m headed there, but your going right along with me so might as well stop trynna change the subject!”

I made a dramatic noise and grabbed her shoulders.

“Look! I was angry and it was nothing personal, okay? Can we please move on? I’m stressed out and this whole thing isn’t making it any easier.”

Her face dropped from angry and annoyed, back to normal. “Fine”

I began my walk again and when I got to drama 3 I zoned out completely. My next two classes went by without any participation from me.

After school when I was changing into some shorts and a shirt for cheerleading practice, I snapped back into reality. This was something I was gonna have to pay attention to. After all, I was the captain.

“Okay you guys,” I said walking out of the locker room and into the gym. “Were gonna do some stretches and were gonna do 3 laps instead of our usual 5 because I’ve got some important announcements before get into practice.” I said.

I had India lead everyone with the stretches, and afterwards they began their run.

After that, I had everyone sit on the bleachers while I gave announcements.

“Alright. I guess I should start with the game next week. Its being played here so we wont have to get here so early for the bus or anything. But, you do have to be in the gym by 5. Another thing is the new uniforms we ordered will be getting delivered to your homes, so you will have to fill out an index card before you leave here today.”

A girl named Candice spoke. “Wait, why not deliver them to the school?”

“Because they arrive on a Friday after school, and we need them to be tried on and everything by Monday morning so that if any of you have problems with your fitting we can re order and have them delivered before Friday.”

Everyone nodded.

“Okay next we have, the charity car wash/ kindercare program two Saturdays from now. Some of us will be doing car wash and some of us will be volunteering with little 4 and 5 year olds. I told you guys about this last week but today is the sign up day for which one you wanna do. It has to be even though guys. If its too many of you on one side, then I’m gonna have to replace some of you”

I passed around the clip board for that and then after everyone had signed up, I had India and Naomi help teach the girls the new cheer.

About an hour later when practice was over, I dreaded going over to his house. But, at the same time I wanted to.

I knew making a mistake the moment I rang his doorbell. I thought about leaving but when I was about to, the door opened.

“Hey” He said smiling.

I gave a shy smile, something I never am, and replied back. “Hey”

He opened his door wider and gestured for me to come in. I did.

“So how was practice”

“Same”

He nodded and cleared his throat as he made his way up the steps to his room. I waved hello to his mom and followed behind him.

“So what did you wanna talk about?” I asked trying to get straight to the point.
