I began to loosen up around him more and more. I figured that I would hold off on any master plan I may have spontaneously thought up in the mist of being overly excited.
“So, did you have fun tonight?” Jalil asked.
“I really did” I replied.
“Im glad, well listen lets make a stop before I take you home.”
“Sure, where?”
“I gotta go drop my dad’s wallet off to him. He left it in here earlier when I took him to the bank and he said he needs it ASAP”
Every nerve in my body stiffened. I felt myself clawing at the seat, but he didn’t see this, he had his eyes on the road.
“Uh…”
“I mean, we don’t have too” He said noticing my pause.
“N-no! I mean, uh, no it’s fine. I was just thinking about something” I said only giving the partial truth.
“Okay”
We drove to his dad’s house and the whole way there I was making a mental note to remember where I was going.
We pulled in front of a house. It was really cozy and it was pretty. I kept thinking I was dreaming or something. After all these years I was actually going to be face to face with my parents murderers.
He came around to my side and opened the door. “It’ll be quick I promise. In and out”
I laughed at his statement and when he realized what he had said he laughed to. “I mean not in and out. I meant go in and come out fast”
I laughed a little louder. “Just stop” I said trying to quiet my laughter.
“Okay”
We walked up the walk way and chris rang the doorbell. Within seconds there was an answer.
“Its about time Jalil, damn, I couldn’t even pay for my pizza”
“Dad you shouldn’t be eating pizza anyway, you eat it all the time.”
His dad waved him off and then as if one cue he noticed me standing there.
“Oh hel-“ He cut himself off and gave me a weird look. “Have we met”
I smiled a devilish smile. “I wouldn’t remember.”
He nodded. “And yet, I’m getting the strange feeling we have”
I squinted my eyes and shrugged. “Maybe so, but it’s a pleasure to meet you” I held out my hand and he shook it firmly, still looking into my eyes.
“You as well”
Jalil looked at both of us in confusion. “Am I missing something?”
“No, nothing at all” His dad said.
But it was the way he said it that worried me. He said it as if, he really wanted to say ‘you’re missing more than you know’.
I still hadn’t told Jalil that we had in fact attended the same high school together. I saw no need to. When and if the time came, I’d simply act as if I had no idea.
We left in a matter of minutes. “I think my dad likes you”
I looked over at him and smiled. “I’m glad”
