7 o’clock came around pretty fast. But I was actually excited. It gave me a rush knowing that by the end of all my plotting and scheming, I’d be making my parents proud. I was their little girl and they loved me. If it wasn’t for that man, I’d be able to hear them say it everyday like back then. But thing’s were different now, I was different now.

I closed my eyes and got an image of them smiling. I would have that memory stained in my mind forever.

When I heard the knock at the door, I was ready. I turned around in the mirror once more, and went to answer the door. Since Sarah had gone home after curling my hair, I had no one to tell me how fabulous I looked in my new dress. I just had to assume I looked great and roll with that.

“Hey pretty lady,” Jalil said as I opened the door. “Wow, you look great!”

“Thanks…” I said smiling.

“You know what they say, natural beauty is ten times more beautiful than artificial”

I laughed. “I’ll keep that in mind”

I liked this guy, he was good for my ego.

“Shall we?” he asked holding out his hand.

“We shall.” I said taking his into mine.

I locked the bottom lock of my door from the inside and then shut it.

While in his car, I realized two things. The first thing was, he was so much sexier when I wasn’t tipsy. The second thing was, He was turning me on a little bit too much, and he wasn’t even trying.

We pulled up to a restaurant that looked pretty fancy, but not too fancy. Which was what I liked. I hated feeling out of place, it was the worst feeling. I liked to be comfortable. He came around to my side of the car to let me out and then we made our way to the entrance of the restaurant.

“Wow…” I said trailing off while looking around the place. “Its beautiful”

He smiled that gorgeous smile of his and I smiled back.

“Isn’t it though?”

We went into the restaurant and he told the man we had a reservation.

“Under what name sir?”

“Collins” Jalil answered.

“Ah, yes, the early morning reservation… 9am to be exact” The man said with slight sarcasm.

I was beginning to laugh myself, but then it hit me, 9am!

I waited until we were seated to say something. “He said 9, but you didn’t ask me out until after 10… something you wanna tell me?” I said with a slight smile going across my face.

“Oh yeah, about that. I kinda made the reservation before I called you.” He said picking up a menu. I could tell this was something he hadn’t intended on me finding out.

“How’d you know I’d say yes?”

“I hoped you would.” He said looking up at me and smiling that smile yet again.

I tried looking away from that gaze of his, but he wouldn’t let me look away. His gaze was burning into my soul now, I felt trapped. I didn’t like this feeling… not one little bit.

“Excuse me, for just a minute” I said getting up.

I walked to the back where the ladies room was. When I reached it, I was glad that no one else had been in there with me.

I looked into the mirror at me reflection, while resting both hands on either side of the sink. “Don’t let your guard down Des, you got this” I said to myself into the mirror.

The only question is… Did I really?


I returned to the table and sat down.

“You okay?” He asked.

“Yeah, uh,” I shook my head trying to reassure myself more than him “Yeah, I’m fine”

He smiled, AGAIN!

“Good, I ordered for you”

“Really? And what, may I ask, did you order?”

He laughed. It was a sexy laugh. This time, I held his gaze and I had the power. There was no way I’d fall under his spell again. It was crazy what his looks were doing to me. It was a physical attraction that I had never endured before. It was making me think, maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t all physical.

When The food came, I realized this Guy was really too good to be true. “How’d you know I loved lamb?” I said giving him an odd look.

“I’m gifted”

“That you are my friend”

“Huh?”

“What?” I asked.

“You said something…”

“No I didn’t…”

Shit I thought I said that in my head!

“Anyway… tell me about yourself”

I put my fork down and glanced his way. “What cha wanna know?”

“Whatever you feel like telling”

“Okay that’s easy… I Just turned 20, which you already knew. My major is psychology. I moved out of my grandparents house when I was 18 so I’ve been living on my own for almost two years now, I had to get away, I felt smothered.”

“I know what you mean, My dad’s always in my business. I be like, ‘aye, chill out!’”

We laughed, mine sounded real, but only I knew it was forced.

“So, you and your parents don’t get along or something?”

“What do you mean” I said quickly.

“You said you lived with you grandparents, right?” He asked, looking at me funny.

“Oh, yeah,” I started. “I, uh… I mean, my parents died when I was younger… In a car accident, so my grandparents took me in”

“Oh damn, I’m sorry…”

“It was a long time ago”

“My mom died during my delivery, I never met her” He said sounding a little sad, but not so much.

It was then that I looked up at him, feeling a little guilty.

Should I really be taking my anger out on him? After all, his father was the maniac…
