I walked up the walkway to my moms home. I hadnt been here since the day of my graduation. Some of my family had met up here and had cake and ice cream, took pictures, and made more embarrassing moments to tell the next generation.

I unlocked the front door and went in. I immediately smelled fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and collard greens. I had missed mama's cooking the last few weeks. I placed my purse on the table and made my way toward the kitchen, I heard voices. One of them I was sure was my mom, Another sounded like My cousin Rico. Thats not his real name, we just call him that because he always got money. But sometimes I called him "CoaCoa". His real names Rashawn. We were super close as kids, he and his mom moved to florida when we were about 16 though.

"Ma?"

"In here baby"

I hit the corner to the kitchen and I was right. There stood Rico.

"Hey there stranger" He said all smiles.

"Aint nothin strange 'cept this new look you rockin" I said grinning and running over to give him a hug.

"Damn, you got tall" I said.

"Hey! None of that cursing on sunday" My mom chimed in.

"Mommy! Thats not a curse word!" I said going to give her a hug as well.

She gave me a stern look, you know the one that said 'dont push it' Then gave me a kiss on the cheeck before starting to flip the wings over in the grease.

"I was just about to call you baby, Dinners here tonight so dont stray"

I closed my eyes and inhaled all the fresh food. "MMM i wasnt going anywhere ma, trust!"

Rico laughed in the corner.

I looked at him and rolled my eyes, then we went into the living room and began catching up. I let him tell me all about Miami and all his new hoes he's been messing with. I had always wanted to go to miami and I was gonna keep that in mind as an upcomming trip.

When he got to the end of his story he looked at me and said "So what about you C? Whats been happenin?"

I shrugged. Then looked away. "I dont kno CoaCoa, Shits been crazy these last few days"

"Crazy? Like how? Just dont tell me I gotta kill somebody. Please dont."

"Actually, somebodys already been killed. Apparently Im the numba one suspect" I said in a low tone so my mom wouldnt hear.

"what!" he yelled standing up.

"Whats going on in there?!" my mom yelled from the kitchen.

"Nothing ma, everythings cool" I yelled back. I turned back to Rico who was still standing. "Sit down"

He took his seat across from me again. "What the hell did you do C?"

"Nothing, I did nothing. Im only being watched because the person who got killed is my ex boyfriend. I had nothing to do with his murder..." I said trailing off into thought.

"Well tell the police that C" Rico said looking me straight in the eye.

"Its not that simple Rico. I may not have done it, but I know who did -well kinda- I mean I dont know exactly who did it, but, FUCK its hard to explain!"

"Well explain it then"

I let out a deep breath and let my mind trail off to that night. This was getting way too complicated. What made it worse was, there was nothing I could say to clear my name without causing DayDay to take the fall. I wouldnt let him go down for trynna protect me, I would never do that.
