"5 weeks pregnant" The doctor repeated for the third time. He said it repeatedly because he could tell that my mind was somewhere else. I couldnt think, breath, or move. All I kept hearing over and over again was "5 weeks pregnant"

I nodded my head and looked up at the doctor. "are you sure?"

"As sure as I am that I weight more than 10 pounds."

I laughed, but I didn't see a damn thing funny. Still It wasn't his fault I got knocked up with some man's baby. And even still im not a rude person. I got up from the doctors table and started walking towards the exit.

"Thank you doctor."

"If you dont mind me saying so..."

I turned around to face him. "Yeah?"

"I see pretty young girls like yourself get pregnant everyday. If your thinking about doing something you may regret, just remember there are other alternatives."

"Oh yea? like what?"

"adoption. many people arent as lucky as you are. They ant have kids. Think about how happy they would be to take care of him or her if you choose not too."

I thought about what he said. It didnt exactly warm my heart, but it made me feel a little better. "thanks doc"

When I walked into the waiting area shannon was sitting there reading this magazine. When she saw me she put it down and started walking toward me. "So...?"

"Im pregnant" I said walking past her and out of the door. She was right on my trail.

"Wait you dont sound to happy about that, im guessing your gonna tell me wassup." she grabbed my arm and made me look at her.

"Can we talk about this in the car?"

"No something's wrong and I wanna know what" she said crossing her arms over her chest.

"Ok, but its a long story... lets sit down on the bench"

she followed, and I told her the whole story. From me meeting Chris, to the night I found out Jamal may be having a baby. By the time I was done she had a shocked expression on her face.

"So... This isnt Jamals baby?"

I shook my head no.

"This is Chris's baby?"

I nodded my head yes.

"Are you gonna tell Jamal?"

"I dont have a choice Shavonn. He's gonna know it isnt his as soon as I tell him im pregnant. We havent had sex in 3 months."

I began to cry again and she gave me a hug. "Its gonna be ok. I promise."

When I walked through the door of my house, I knew Jamal was cooking because I could smell all the seasonings. He was an excellent cook, but he only did on special occasions. I did most of the cooking. At this point we hadnt really spoken since that night. He spent most of his time at work or out with his friends. I was suprised he was home now.

We made eye contact as I slowly paced through the kitchen. He watched me as I opened the refrigerator and grabbed the apple juice. I poured some into a glass and put it back in its place.

I sat down at the kitchen table, and got uncomfortable under his stare.

"You been crying?" I looked up at him almost too quickly then looked away.

"No." I replied just as quick.

"you're lieing. you always reply fast when you lie."

"Well maybe im picking up dirty habits." I shot back at him letting him know that  I was talking about him.

He looked down at the ground, then back up at me.

"You know, It's getting harder and harder to call you my wife." He said sadly.

"Oh really? what a shame." I got up from the table and got inches away from the bedroom door when I heard him say...

"So when were you gonna tell me you were pregnant?"
