When I was 12 years old, I was riding my bike down a street two blocks from my home. Suddenly out of a yard next to the street, an extremely angry pit bull jumped out and began chasing me! I was completely freaked out, and I peddled as fast as I could. When I reached the next intersection, I sped through it without a thought. I heard the screeching of tires and a man yelling at me. I sped off, my heart pounding, as fast as I could. As I peddled away, I thought “I am so glad to be alive right now.”

 

We all want to live. We want to grow up, get married, have kids, see our kids graduate from high school and college, become successful, and live a long, happy life. But is that what truly makes us happy? Is that what makes us “alive”?

 

Romans 6:11 says “…count yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Jesus Christ.” This means that because of sin, we should be counted as dead. We deserve to die and spend eternity apart from God. But Jesus came and died for our sins, so we can be alive! We can spend eternity in heaven with God, and be truly ALIVE forever!

 

So to complete the question in the title: Are you alive eternally? Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and put your life in Him? Being alive in this world is nice, but without God we will not be alive forever. In fact, without God, we will die in our sins and spend eternity apart from God.
