Green Monster Part 8

Fiction Created on 5-15-07 Views(44) Story Rating G

Mr. Hinkerhoff came the next morning at nine. “Well Matt, let’s see how you’ve done. What is your job and promotion?”

“Well, I got a job as a magazine salesman. I sold 100 magazines within a month and got promoted. So now I’ll have a couple of people working under me.”

“Excellent. Sounds like you worked hard. Where did you volunteer at?”

“I spent all of my volunteer hours at the soup kitchen. It’s really a great place, but it’s closing. I wish I could help them.”

“Well now Matt. It seems you’ve learned your lesson. You worked diligently, volunteered without complaint, and now you want to help others do it too. I also see that you’ve taken good care of Rupert.”

“Yeah, there was a little problem but I’ve made sure it won’t happen again. I really do care about that soup kitchen, and I guess Rupert’s kind of grown on me.”

“Well according to your father’s will, it looks like you’ve definitely fulfilled your end of the deal. Now it’s time you get your reward. I’ll have the money sent to your account as soon as possible.”

“Thanks. I have a pretty good idea of what to do with it first.”

The next evening Matt drove over to the soup kitchen. He handed Gretta a check for fifty thousand dollars. She fainted.

Now the soup kitchen was going to be able to stay open. Matt smiled as he drove home to Rupert. He didn’t know what he would do with the rest of the money. Gretta definitely deserved something nice. So Matt turned around and made his way to the jewelry store. He bought a beautiful set. There was a silver and diamond necklace, bracelet, and earrings. Now that the money was his, he didn’t have to worry about Everett stealing Rupert anymore. He actually felt a little sorry for Everett. His mother was a force to be reckoned with.

The whole experience actually had changed him. He was no longer green, with the exception of his name. He wasn’t envious of Everett or Rupert, and he wasn’t jealous of them either. But Everett was still a green monster.
