Matt drove like crazy toward Everett’s house. He wanted to get there before the police so he could have his chance alone with him. Several very graphic images appeared in his head of what he would do to him.
When he got there, he didn’t even bother to knock. He burst right in and shouted, “Everett what did you do with my dog? I know you took him. You have no idea what I’m going to do to you when I get my hands on you. You better get down here right now if you don’t want it to get any worse.” But it appeared he wasn’t home. Where could he be?
Matt jumped with a start as his cell phone started ringing. It was his Aunt Gretta, Everett’s mom. “Hello. Do you know where Everett is? It’s important!”
“I know I know. He took your dog, but I’ve got him now. Don’t worry. I called your house, but obviously you’re not home. I can’t believe he would do something like this. No, actually I can. He’s turned into a horrible green monster.”
“Where are you now? I’ve already called the police.” He told her.
“Don’t turn him in please. Matt, trust me I will deal with him. Just make something up. I’ll meet you back at your house with Rupert.”
Matt got back in his car and headed home. He knew Rupert was safe in her hands, so he stopped worrying a little bit. He was going to get the money now. Well, he would get it as soon as he got a promotion and finished that volunteer work. He only had two hours left. That could be finished in no time. So right now he had to concentrate on selling those stupid magazines and possibly hiring someone to stay with Rupert while he was out.
When he got home he proposed this idea to Gretta. She thought that she should stay with him while he was out. “Just call me ahead of time before you go out, and I’ll be right over.”
He agreed and gave her a key to his house. He couldn’t let anything else happen.
The next morning he got up early, and fed, brushed, and bathed Rupert. After that, he called Gretta and headed out with as many magazines as he could carry without revealing himself as a salesman. He tried to be as friendly as he could and he actually sold some. By the end of the day, Matt had sold half of the 100 magazines. At this pace he could almost smell the money. He called Gretta to check in on Rupert, and she assured him everything was just fine.
